Fourth of July Hikin'

We thought we'd head to Vail for Independence Day.  Our plan was to do a little hiking around the mountain, maybe catch a few minutes of the parade through the village, and grab a bite to eat at a fun restaurant.  We didn't realize that thousands of people would descend on the village that day, so when we got slowed down in the super traffic jam on I-70 near Vail, we decided to just keep driving and do a little exploring on top of the Pass.  It was a gorgeous day, and Callie snoozed the whole time we explored around the Black Lakes.  After we had our fill of the mountains, we stopped in Minturn, grabbed some Nicky's Quickies and had ourselves a yummy feast at a little park near the river.  After stopping for gas and a few needs at Wal-Mart (read: diapers), we headed home for an afternoon of naps for everyone.  It was a great day and just a lot of fun to get out of the house and do something "real" after almost a month of being cooped up at home.

Zonked out - we moved her from her car seat to the carrier
and back to the car seat and she never woke up!

Carry On!

Gregg got this front carrier from his parents for his birthday.  He "practiced" during the week leading up to Callie's birth by carrying around a bag of flour and a few sundry cans of food from the pantry.  At last he was able to carry a real, live baby in his new toy.  HIS real, live baby.  Can't beat it.  :)

Our first Monday Night "Hike" on 1 July 2013, which was actually just a walk to the newspaper box and back, was a huge success:

Callie gets worn around the house, too.  Here she's learning the fine art of gromlet making on 2 July.  She's also helped me with the vacuuming (not pictured):

On the fourth of July we hit an actual trail along the shores of the Black Lakes on top of Vail Pass.  She slept the whole time:

We thought the carrier was a total win until we attempted another, true Monday Night Hike on the East Lake Creek Trail on 8 July.  Hiking was not in Callie's plans for that evening, and we only made it on the trail about a half mile before waving the white flag.  Poor Cal cried the entire time - during the drive to the trailhead, on the trail, and all the way home.  We're slowly learning that our plans no longer matter and what Cal says goes:

Tummy Time

I must admit it's pretty fun to see the hard work of my quiltin' bee actually be used by a real, live baby.  MY real, live baby.  Can't beat it.  :)

6 July 2013 (almost four weeks old):

I just have to laugh at how big the leg holes are on this
onesie compared to Callie's skinny little legs.

We Love Grandparents!

We were lucky enough to have lots of grandparent time during the first few weeks at home with the Calster.  That meant Callie was cuddled constantly, Gregg was back at work, and I was able to get many much-needed naps.  Plus, we were well fed and the house magically stayed clean!  We sure love grandmas and grandpas!

Grandma and Grandpa Elwood meeting their first grandbaby -
grandparenthood looks good on them!

This pic is significant because it's three generations of first
children and first grandchildren.

Moms and daughters.

Grandma and Grandpa Blanchard were happy to meet
Miss Callie, too.

Story time with Grandma Blanchard.

Naps for everyone!

Baby Makes Three

Just a few more pics of our new fam in the hospital, because I can't help myself:

And we finally got to go home!  The nurses and doctors said we could stay three or four nights (insurance would cover four nights), but when the doctor checked my incision on the morning of the 4th day (June 12th), she noticed some slight redness and decided to put me on antibiotics to be safe.  She also said we had to stay one more night.  So we did.   Unfortunately, we had to spend that last night tucked away in a tiny room in the corner of the women's center.  We had been in a big, nice room with an awesome view of Vail Mountain.  Because some twins were coming in, we got kicked into the "dungeon" room, with a window looking out into the hallway.  Needless to say we were very glad to head home on the 13th.
