Trick or Treat

We think she's just as sweet as that sugary candy corn.

The Four Seasons of Infancy

Also known as Callie at age four months.
(Yes, she's technically past the four-and-a-half-month mark now as I'm posting this.
Better late than never, eh?)

It's truly amazing how much emotion can come from a tiny baby face in the span of a couple of minutes.  She definitely keeps us on our toes.  As far as stats go, from her four month appointment on October 14th, she weighed a whoppin' (haha) 10 lbs 10 oz (up two pounds since her 2 month check-up), and grew an inch in length (to 24.5 inches) and in head circumference (16.25 inches).  Her doc says she's a slow grower, but perfectly healthy.  And cute.  (Actually, I don't think he said she was cute.  But she is.  No bias here.)

Some of her latest tricks:
~ gives big open-mouthed "kisses" when she's being kissed

~ grabs at everything within reach (hair, glasses, clothes, her legs, wipes, burp cloths, toys, etc., etc.)

~ practices her squeals and coos quite often, especially at rather inappropriate times such as during prayers and at 4:30 in the morning

~ "purrs" (kind of a guttural g sound complete with saliva expulsion) when especially happy and content (this sound is also practiced in the wee morning hours in her crib, much to her parents delight/dismay)

~ finally sleeps in her crib for naps (consistency of said naps is still a work in progress, but we're getting there!) - one day she just refused to fall asleep in my arms like she had been doing for the first 3 1/2 months of her life, so I laid her in her crib and she fell right asleep; we haven't looked back since!

~ has set her own bedtime between 6 and 7 pm, and will usually sleep till 6 or 6:30 in the morning with a few wake-ups to eat - right now we're in the throes of the infamous "Wonder Week 19" aka "4-Month Sleep Regression" (just googling it helped me when I realized I wasn't alone in this hurdle) which has pretty much brought us back to newborn-esque night wakings (hungry (waaa!) every 2 - 3 hours instead of the bigger chunks of at least 4 and even up to 6 hours we were getting just a couple of weeks ago); I'm definitely feeling the sleep deprivation, but I keep telling myself it can't last forever!

~ has eaten a few swallows of rice cereal - she wasn't quite sure what to do with the stuff at first, but just last night the whole swallowing thing finally clicked and she was eager to polish off her tiny portion

~ still wears 0-3 months clothes (mostly - the orange onesie in these pics is actually a newborn size (say what?) and we have broken out a few 3-6 month items that seem to fit pretty well, but 0-6 month tights are more like "looses" (and are really quite comical) on our skinny little gal)

~ usually loves my (off-key) singing - this month our favorites are "Leaves are Falling All Around", "I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas", and "It's Autumn Time"

~ blows raspberries, sucks in her bottom lip, passes toys from one hand to the other, refuses to drink from a bottle, can fall asleep in the carseat (with assistance, but better than the crying nonstop that we had before!), loves being outside and watching out the window, chews/licks/slobbers on everything

Fall Hikin' With the Fam

We took a little jaunt in the crisp, fall mountain air on Saturday, hiking near our favorite snow-shoeing trail in Cordillera (though we've done both forks from this trailhead in the summertime, too).  There won't be many perfectly sunny late-autumn days like this left, so we made sure to take full advantage.  Callie has become quite the lover of hiking - as long as she can face forward in that carrier.  Most of the leaves had fallen from the trees - we've gone way past peak leaf peeping season around here - but the confetti trail was festive anyway.  Practically perfect day with my fam.

Pirate Ship Park

We did do other things during the Farrer's visit, but the only one we brought the camera to also seemed to be the highlight: Vail's Priate Ship Park.

Needless to say, we had a marvelous time.

These probably don't need captions and, because Gregg is creating this post instead of Kim, they'll remain that way because he's lazy. Enjoy.

Terrific Telluride

We spent a glorious weekend at Telluride (technically we stayed in the Town of Mountain Village, which is just over the ridge from the town of Telluride but is where the resort is) from Oct 3rd through 6th.  Basically, it was amazing timing on our part to see the leaves at their brightest and the snow at its whitest.  We intentionally kept this trip low-key as far as site-seeing goes, mostly just enjoying the view from the windows in our condo and occasionally jaunting out for a cool walk or a ride on the gondola.  Leaves, family, snow, random junk food (think corn dogs and papa murphy's pizza and these delicious scarecrow bars) and General Conference . . . this weekend was practically perfect in every way.

And now I'll shut up and let the pictures do (most of) the talking:

Friday morning we woke up to this.  (Taken from our window.)

Gregg's favorite sight in the world.

Cal liked the stroller for a while, but after the long car ride,
she really would rather not get back in that car seat
thankyouverymuch.

Again, from the window - can you blame
us for just staring at this view all day?

The front carrier was much more to Callie's
liking.  It was so fun to watch her look around,
wave her mittened hands, kick her little legs,
and squeal in delight as we wandered around.

Oooh, first time in a gondola or "box"
as Gregg called it.

First view of Telluride.  A-maze-ing!

Another jaunt around the village on Saturday morning.
Already the leaves were losing their vibrance, but the clear blue
sky more than made up for it in my book.

The Palmyra, where we stayed.  Our condo had the open
curtains on the windows in the center of this photo.

Fun in the elevator.

One more from the window.  This tree seriously glowed.

Visiting Bridal Veil Falls.  We bumped
into Gregg's friend, Joel, who kindly
snapped a family photo for us.

Looking back towards Telluride from the falls.

We took "the long way" home via this scenic byway.

This spot by the river made a perfect lunchtime stop for
all of us.  (And yes, I did need that cover because there
actually were other people around.)  Not a bad view to
nurse a baby to, if you ask me.
