Vermont 2023 {Newport Library, Stowe Walks, Eden Lake Twice}

18 September 2023 - A rainy day and Monday. We did school in the morning and then the kids and I drove to Newport to hang out at the library for a while before we went on to Walmart to buy groceries. It was a good little outing for a soggy day.

We read this one on my libby app on my computer,
which actually worked quite well! Someone recommended it to
go along with Farmhouse because of the house cutaways
and we found it completely delightful! So many
funny little details that we just loved discovering!

Coloring table in the kids room at the Goodrich Memorial
Library in Newport. Seriously so cozy and cute in this place!

This was displayed on the fireplace mantel in the children's
room I and immediately snatched it and sat down to
read it to myself. Before we left, I gathered Cal and Sam by
me on the couch and read it again to them. We all loved it!
Not actually a fall book, but it would go great with other
apple-themed books that I love this time of year. 🍎

Makes my heart go pitter pat. Even if it’s
Dog Man that he’s reading. 😍

Not the first time I’ve spotted her reading in a
library in Vermont in this position. 😆🥰

20 September 2023 - Gregg had a meeting in Stowe on Wednesday morning, so we tagged along (definitely a pattern lately that we are loving!). This time, the kids and I walked from the Inntopia office to the library (surprise, surprise) to spend the couple hours. It was the most glorious morning! We loved the walk through town and got to go on the covered pedestrian bridge that we've driven by millions of times but haven't ever walked through. We read a pile of "house" books while we were there and the kids played on the computer and I walked to the post office to mail some postcards. When Gregg was done with his meeting, he picked us up and we ate our picnic lunch on a picnic table near "Quiet Path", which we then walked on after we ate. We headed back to Jay after our walk, but made a stop for a few hours at Eden Lake where we sat on a bench and soaked up the sun and watched the water. And the kids played in the sand. Bliss!

Not great lighting in the sun and with my camera, but
this is the loveliest view of Stowe from the path on
Mountain Road.

Covered bridge for humans!

View from the covered bridge.

Better lighting on the other side.

This is part of a gas station, but it's just
so cute! Look at that mossy roof!

Another cute porch right in the heart of Stowe.

On the visitor center door.

We still had a few minutes till the library
would open, so we walked behind the church
to see what we could see. The beginning of the rec
path behind the church had this really cool mural.

Map of the Stowe rec path.

Fun house/home books we enjoyed on the couch
in the Stowe Library (counts as school!).

This was on the wall in the Stowe library
and I just thought it was so good.

Waiting out front of the library for Gregg
to come pick us up for lunch.

The library is on church street. I wonder
why it's named that?

The library is so cute!

I learned some things here at our little picnic
spot. Did you know the first polio epidemic
started in Vermont? This was a monument honoring
the March of Dimes.

The view of Mansfield from Quiet Path. Isn't that lovely?

A quiet walk on Quiet Path.

Eden Lake on a blue sky day.

Best life.

Oh yeah, we played some crazy tetherball, too. That
was a hoot!

22 September 2023 - Friday again, another trip to Eden Lake after school. We wore swim suits this time. And took the kayak out of the back of the car for the first time since we got here. We took it out on the lake for a spin and daydreamed again about having a house on a lake and having it be Lake Eden.

I'm always finding surprises on my phone from this hooligan.

Bon voyage!

While the boys were out on the lake, I finished
this one on my kindle app on my phone. Heatha
recommended it and I loved it. I could completely
relate to the essay about purses. Hoo boy.

Vermont 2023 {Sheldon Rail Trail Ride, Jay Disc Golf}

17 September 2023 - The weather was glorious on Sunday, so after we watched my cousin Savanna's mission farewell Sacrament Meeting on zoom, we loaded up the bikes and drove to Sheldon to ride a new-to-us section of the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail. The sky wasn't quite as blue by the time we were riding, but it was still lovely weather and we (most of us, anyway) enjoyed the ride through corn fields and tree tunnels. We even got to watch some cows come home to be milked by passing under us on the trail!

The view from our parking lot. See those trees starting to
change?

We parked right by this sign for our bike ride. I had no idea
that the Civil War made it this far north!

And right near that sign and bridge is the
historical society building. I love that
the picture on their sign depicts the burning
covered bridge mentioned on the first sign.

Our first (and only - we thought we'd get further
to a second one, but turned around early) bridge of the
ride.

Can you believe that green?!

We were riding right through corn fields so there
were lots of these little tractor crossing signs that were
pretty cute.

Almost a tree tunnel (and super blurry
because I was taking it while riding).

Cow crossing sign! But notice that the cows
don't actually go across the trail! (I think they probably used
to and this tunnel system is new)

We watched them all walk into the barn.

I wonder if their milk ends up in Ben and Jerry's ice
cream?

The biggest morning glory flowers
(I'm guessing?) I've ever seen!

The corn is as high as an elephant's eye!

Biking group shot attempt 1.

This one is better!

When we got back to the condo we ate dinner, and then Gregg, Sam and I headed over to Tramside to play a little disc golf. The sky was amazing and the disc golf was great. I tell ya, this is the life!
