Three (part b)

We've reached three months with our little Callie June!

Lately she loves:
> examining and munching on her hands (they really are delicious)
> kicking, kicking, kicking those tiny, cute feet
> sitting up to see the world (with assistance, of course)

She doesn't love (I won't say hate because that is a strong word, but it might be close on some of these):
> tummy time (we've renamed it "tummy torture") (edited to add that two days after posting this the switch went off and tummy time moved from Cal's "hate it" list to the "this rocks!" list)
> napping in her crib
> getting out of the bathtub

A few fun "milestones" (we kind of mock this word, but I guess it's descriptive enough):
> babbling and talking and cooing a lot, especially in the morning
> holding her head up, albeit somewhat bobble head-like, though getting steadier every day, while held upright (over a shoulder or in a sitting position)
> giggling! (first time last night and it was the best sound EVER!)

And now for a plethora of photos of our Callie-girl (hang on tight!):

(Thanks to Auntie Heather for the fun tie-dye!)

Pink Pajama Party

Callie has no shortage of cute jammies to snuggle in.  And I'm pretty sure you couldn't find a cuter little babe to wear them.  Here are just a few of the latest pink pajamas she finally fits into:

Not actually jammies in this photo - but
watching her hang out with dad on a
Sunday afternoon was just too cute to
leave out of a post.

Enjoying the cool, post-rainstorm air
in her new favorite position to be carried in.

Drool is a constant fixture around
these parts lately.

I sometimes sing an old campfire song my Grandpa Thornley used to sing when Callie is wearing her pink pajamas (you can sing along, too, to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic):

I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when it's hot.
I wear my flannel nightie in the winter when it's not.
And sometimes in the spring
and sometimes in the fall
I jump between the covers with nothing on at all.

Glory, glory what's it to ya?
Glory, glory what's it to ya?
Autumn breezes blowin' though ya
with nothing on at all!

We Love the Mountains

We haven't done a whole lot of hiking this summer, what with the addition of Cal to our ranks and all.  Maybe you remember the first time we attempted a Monday Night Hike with our little one?  Yeah, bad news bears.  Things are getting better since that disaster of an evening, however.  For one thing, we've nixed the evening hours for outings such as this; mornings are much happier times for Miss Callie.  And another key point, I think, is that our baby girl is growing up.  She's nearly three months old now - bring on the mountains!  And that's exactly what we did on Labor Day.

We started our morning on the Lionshead Rock trail in Minturn.  We didn't make it to the top this time (Cal is getting better in the carrier, but she does have her limits), but we were able to get to a lovely overlook before she got a little cranky.  We did attempt finishing the trail with her sleeping in my arms, but let me tell you: hiking at elevation with a dead-weight slumbering infant in your arms is no easy task.  We decided it was best for my wimpy arms to just turn around.  The greenery was lovely, though, and we thoroughly enjoyed the cool, quiet morning.

After we got back to the car and changed a poopy diaper that was this close to being a blowout (phew), we buckled ourselves back in and kept heading south to one of our favorite spots around, Homestake Road.  We found a lovely little pull-out off the main road and settled in for an afternoon of relaxation.  Gregg made a small fire and roasted us some delicious hot dogs for lunch.  Callie snoozed in my arms after her own lunchtime feast.  And I breathed in the most delicious smell in the world (here's the recipe: fir needles + dirt + sunshine = magic in your nostrils).  It was a simply perfect day in the mountains we love.

Practicing her latest skill - holding up that
heavy head!
