Covid is causing all kinds of changes to our lives and plans, but we were able to figure out a workable solution for Callie's birthday date on June 3rd with Grandpa and Grandma Blanchard: fishing on the Ogden River! I think they all had a fun time!
Decked out and ready to catch some fish! |
Grandpa found the perfect spot along the river behind the rodeo grounds - gentle slope, shallow water, plenty of shade! |
Knowing that fishing isn't always the most thrilling activity for an active nearly 7-year-old, Grandma and Grandpa brought along plenty of other enticements to keep her smiling. |
Grandma and Cal made a little visit to the park across the river for a hunt. |
And thanks to Grandma's strategic planting of spare change, she was victorious and profitable in her search! |
There are a lot of colorful murals painted on the back of the rodeo stands, so Cal and Grandma also had a fun photo shoot walk while Grandpa held down the fort at the river. |
They got back from their walk just in time to help net a catch! |
Meanwhile, one of Gregg's birthday wishes was to play a couple new(ish)-to-him disc golf courses in the Ogden area. After we dropped Callie off at the river with the grandparents, we drove to Harrisville to play a couple rounds on the course there. And then, since we still had time to spare, we checked out the course at the entrance of Fort Buenaventura. It was a fun morning for us, too!
We snuck up on the birthday daters. |
And Sam got a turn to hold the rod for a bit before we packed up. |
Gregg's parents ordered and picked up lunch for everyone from No Frills Diner (a place we've been wanting to try forever, and probably will never try again - a bummer, but at least now we know). There were, of course, also presents and cake to celebrate the birthday folks.
A pretty new dress and a subscription to a magazine about science and art (most perfect gift ever for Callie!). |
Disc golf t-shirt, fire tongs and Raisin Bran Crunch for Gregg. |
Grandma always makes a little birthday cake for birthday dates with grandchildren. |
And she offered to make Gregg's favorite trifle for him (which was a big reason I opted for the cookies the day before - we certainly didn't need two cakes in two days for the four of us!). |
Thanks Grandma/Mom and Grandpa/Dad for making the birthday week fun continue for our Junies!
