Vermont Relocation Vacation {10/10: Jay Brook, Lyndon Covered Bridges, NVU-Lyndon Disc Golf}

We took it easy Saturday (October 10th) morning after a big day on Friday. But it was a nice day despite the wind, so we eventually wanted to get out and explore. We ended up just down the highway a couple miles from the resort at a little pullout on the side of the road that we had noticed cars parked at on occasion as we drove by. It led down to the river (in Utah we'd call it a river, but here it's called Jay Brook or Jay Branch from what I can tell) and it was lovely!

More fungi spotted on a log.

A pretty little falls framed by colorful leaves.

Apparently this is his signature pose these days.

Old stone wall remnants held together by tree roots.

Further upstream a bit was another pretty falls.

The view across the street was marvelous, too.

We headed back home for lunch and more lounging. But after an hour or two of that, we were feeling restless. It was supposed to rain, but not for a few hours, and with the help of a new Vermont map (an actual paper one we picked up yesterday) we noticed a cluster of covered bridges about an hour away. We threw some meatballs in the crock pot to be ready when we got back and hopped in the car. The drive down I-91 to Lyndon was spectacular (as we're finding any drive to anywhere is here in Vermont) and with the help of Google maps once we got to Lyndon, we found all five covered bridges around town. (We've started marking them off as we see them on the paper map and it's fun to see the pink dots multiplying!)

Mid-bridge hunt, we also stopped at the campus of the University of Northern Vermont-Lyndon to try out the first nine holes of their disc golf course. It was a tough one through the trees with steep drop offs for the discs to skid and roll off of, but we had a great time.

Miller's Run Bridge had a parking lot
next to it and a covered pedestrian section, so
we parked and walked over it (after driving over
and back, too).

On our drive through town, we found a park and luckily
had the kids' bikes in the back of the car still because
it had a fun little pump track.

Bar hanging contest time.

Chamberlin Bridge was nice.

New England disc golf is way different than
Utah disc golf!

Last hole (for us anyway) and the storm's a-comin'!

Randall Bridge is no longer used for cars, but
it's still cute.

After diner and between showers, we
visited with my parents. (And
one of the kids took this pic while facetiming.)

After the kids were in bed I opened an email
from Redbox with a code for a discount on an
on demand movie. The first one I saw was a 2020
version of The Secret Garden with Colin Firth!
Sign me up! I thought it was perfect timing since we
recently finished listening to this book in the car on
the drive here. So I rented it and we started watching
within minutes. Shoulda done some searching first.
The reviews here say it all. And actually, I think it was
worse. I kept saying we should just turn it off except that
we had paid money for it. And then I said we should just
turn it off anyway. But we didn't. And it never got better.
Don't waste your time or your dollars on this one!

So, yes, the movie was bad, but it wasn't enough to spoil an otherwise delightful day!
