Snow Day

We had a gigantic snow-dumping storm here this week.  It started snowing on Thursday (Jan 30th) in the early a.m. hours and it didn't stop 'til Friday, 24 hours later.  Then it snowed most of the day Friday, too.  Callie and I didn't leave the house during the bulk of the storm on Thursday, but we were getting a little bit of cabin fever by Friday afternoon and ventured out to view the winter wonderland that surrounded us.  Totals reported by resorts around the area were measured in feet.  I'm guessing we got a couple of those (feet) here, too.  It was deep out there!  They even canceled school, which is a pretty rare event in these parts.  I was glad I didn't have anywhere to go and could just sit in my toasty house (by the toasty fire) and watch the fat flakes falling.  Gregg, on the other hand, had to be in Denver for a conference.  Luckily the roads weren't too bad; they weren't too good, either, but he took it slow and made it home and back in one piece.  Anyone want to come ski?  Hooray for snow!

Seventh Heaven

Our little Callikins turned 7 (SEVEN?!) months old yesterday.  She's pretty great.  I think we'll keep her.

At seven months, Cal is a champion sitter-upper, though we still build a wall of pillows around her (or use the boppy) to soften her falls when she decides that she'd like to munch on her toes mid-sitting session.

Meal-times are among her favorite times of the day.  She's up to two meals of solids each day, a few ice-cube servings of fruits and veggies each.  She especially loves sweet potatoes (even with taco seasoning added) and peas.  Pears and prunes and green beans and carrots are also great.  And she even got some very "delicious" and "fancy" beef with beef broth in her Christmas stocking.  We're holding off on the cereals and bananas and apples (though I'm sure she'd gobble them up) for a while till the poopin' gets . . . shall we say . . . regulated.  :)

She's still not a bottle drinker (actually, maybe she is but we've just given up trying) but will sip a few sips from her sippy cup on occasion.  She also has discovered the joy of drinking (sipping?  lapping?) from Mommy's big glass.  (I actually think she just likes the feel of the cool glass on her teething gums.)

Speaking of teething gums - still no teeth around here.  But I think we're getting really close.

It's been fun to watch her skills develop - especially with her hands.  She wants to grab and touch and hold and pull and scratch everything, soaking up all the sensory knowledge that she can about her world.

We love to listen to her little sounds.  She can carry on quite the conversation with herself - full of gurgles and squeals and hums and grunts and shrieks and giggles and squawks.  It's quite the little symphony to a mother's ears.

She's a happy, cheerful, charming little miss.  Especially at church, where everyone stops to tell her hello and comment on how cute she is (well, duh!) and rub her head or squeeze her little feet.  She'll reward all her admirers with a big, happy, gummy grin.  And many hearts are melted every week.

Jumping in her bumper jumper from Christmas is still her favorite.  Actually, jumping in general is her favorite.

And she is our favorite.
