On the Friday before Cal's birthday we decided to host a little pre-birthday splashing party for our soon-to-be five-year-old. I remember my first friend birthday party being at age 5, and when I suggested it to Cal, she was so excited to invite some friends over to play. I didn't really plan much ahead, but luckily with a few texts (and one hand-made invitation for a new school friend who we didn't have a phone number for), we were able to gather Caleb (and his baby sister Brooke), Moriah (and her little sister Rachel), and Abby (Cal's library-turned-summer-kindergarten-bestie) to join us for an afternoon of splashing, popsicles and presents. It was the perfect amount of party for me as a mom, and luckily Callie thought it was fantastic, too.

We spent Sam's naptime filling up water balloons only to have them popped in a matter of minutes once the friends came. |

Caleb, Cal, and Abby (yes, Abby and Callie are in the same grade!) |

Present time! |

She loved this Melissa and Doug bead set from Abby. |
|
A time capsule from Caleb (the idea had to grow on her - when we first explained what it was "you can put your favorite things in it and then bury the box to be opened up in a long time" she seemed to think that was a pretty crazy idea - ha! and rightly so!) |

Skittles from Moriah - yum! |
|
The aftermath - that bowl was full of watermelon when we started! |
