We invited the family and some good friends (the Larsens - Sam's (and my) BFFs) to have dinner and cake and ice cream with us on Saturday, September 14th, evening to celebrate Sam's birthday. When I asked him what he wanted to eat for dinner at his party, he said, "Hmmm . . . maybe chicken . . . or roast beef . . . what does roast beef taste like?" Haha. We settled on chicken legs, but he didn't want "anything on them" (I assumed he meant breading, so I did some pinteresting and found a recipe he might like; when I showed him the picture he was all for it - and they turned out delicious! (minus the smokey kitchen because of all the grease spattering from cooking a quadruple batch)), plus corn on the cob and watermelon. Grandma Elwood brought some of her home-grown watermelon and cantaloupe and tomatoes to share, Heather brought grapes, and Grandma Blanchard made baked beans. It was a delicious feast!
He got some fun gifts from Grandpa and Grandma Elwood - dino sweats and an aggie shirt and (his new favorite thing ever - Legos! (Callie loves them, too!)). Ky and Mike gave him another Aggie shirt (he's well stocked now!), and he got a big variety pack of neon playdoh from Evy and Bradley (and their parents). (Heather and Scott couldn't make it to the party, but they sent him a playdoh fun factory set so he can make all kinds of fun shapes with his new doh!)
And then it was time for cake - a triceratops cake (made from our favorite ever Mel's Chocolate Cake recipe). Gregg helped with the carving and fine details (which I was eternally grateful for) and the whole thing turned out mighty cute, if I do say so myself. Sam chose rocky road ice cream for the side. Yum!
There's Charlie and Grace - Sam's faves. (And notice the matchy matchy shoe situation for the boys? :) |
Love him! |
It was a fun evening celebrating this fun kid! Thanks to everyone for making the trip and celebrating our boy!
