4th of July

We made the 4th as festive as we could despite these "unprecedented times" we are in. From a patriotic waffle breakfast, to a neighborhood bike parade, to burgers and poppers and rootbeer floats and The Sandlot, to staying up late and watching a 360 degree view of fireworks shot off from neighbors on all sides. (We even trimmed a big branch of a tree in front of the house in the midst of all that.) God bless America! (We really need it!)

Flag waffles - Dad's idea - made breakfast extra festive.

Our neighbors texted out this flyer to everyone on the loop
and since the kids were planning to decorate their bikes and ride
anyway, we decided to join in the fun.

The route. The dot is the Phipp's house (where all
the fun originated from).

Ready to ride!

I even got to participate - thanks to Cal and Sam for the excellent
decorating on my bike.

Heading off at ten a.m.

Everyone sort of glomped together at the Phipp's
house so we ended up riding in a group of paraders.
It was fun to see some familiar faces we haven't
seen for a few months. And we had a lot more
spectators (at least a lot more spread out spectators)
than our usual bike parade near the park.

Popper time!

As we were popping poppers on the driveway
and road, we noticed that a huge branch was
stretching way out into the road near the mailbox
and it was pretty low.

See that one there? That grows down and then up in a really weird
way?

Well, Gregg took care of that with one quick saw.

Better. Not perfect, but better.

The moon was huge and bright!

We had a great view of many neighbors' firework
shows from our garden plot in the backyard.

Happy fourth of July!
