Well, sorta. We've definitely hiked this trail more than any other in the valley, so it's technically not "new". BUT, we've never made the loop through a field (often under water in the spring and early summer) and crossed the stream and came back on the teasel-lined trail before. AND we have never previously hiked it on New Year's Day. So that was new. And fun. And COLD! The kids were so excited to use their camelbaks again (it's how we got them out the door in the first place) but when they actually needed to use them for a drink, the hoses and mouth pieces were frozen stiff and they couldn't get a drop out! But, the resourceful folks that they are, they just scooped up fresh snow as we walked along and used that to quench their thirsts.
Posing by her name carved in the snow by leader of the hiking line, Dad. |
Sam's turn. |
And he even made one for me! (We made one for him, but he never got to see it since we didn't come back the way we came.) |
I love them I love them I love them! |
I love us! |
We cut down from the usual trail to cross this wide open field of snow and lo and behold we met a friend! |
Gregg made it fun to tromp through a untracked space by making designs and shapes as we went. |
Case in point. (See what I did there? ba dum ching!) |
Snack time in the trees. Today's choice? Craisins and cheetos! |
The teasel are plentiful on this part of the trail. |
I loved these pictures! You guys do so many wonderful things! Thanks thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun adventure! And I love how excited they are to hike in snow.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to Gregg about how it's been a game changer this winter that they both can and will walk in the snow - we've never had so many winter hikes and I'm loving it!
