Nordic Nights

Both Cal and Gregg (and Sam, too) have been itching to get back on the slopes since last week's Monday Night Ski.  Today turned out to be the perfect day, what with Cal being out of school early on Wednesdays, Gregg finishing up with work a bit early, and at least a foot of fresh, soft snow (it snowed heavily all morning without stop!) and mid-thirties for temps.  It was superb!

Cal took two runs down the magic carpet and then was headed straight for the lift - her first time since last year (which ended with her being carried most of the way down the mountain in Gregg's arms (poor back!)).  This year, she's much stronger and more confident and totally ready for the big time.  And she totally rocked it!

Sam took a few runs on the magic carpet while Cal and Gregg rested at the bottom (and I got my steps in by hiking up and down the magic carpet run a handful of times (I must say it's much easier to do so in regular snowboots rather than ski boots)) ;).  The lady running the lift was so impressed with him and his mad skills on the hill.  She thought he looked great for only his second day on skis.  "And he can freakin' stop!"  She asked if he had had a lesson and I told her it was all his awesome dad to credit for that.

We're beginning to think we should have rented two pairs of skis this season since they both are so into it and never want to stop.  Cal had a couple more runs on the lift after Sam's turn, and as we were leaving (after two hours at the resort), Sam burst into tears wanting "one more run!"  On the drive home, Callie suggested, "let's go skiing every single week!" and I don't think she'll have to twist her dad's arm too much on that one.

Lots of smiles and tired bods tonight.  That's the sign of a successful ski trip, I think!
