Annular Solar Eclipse

Where did we go the first day we were back from our cross-country trip? To the library, of course! We probably would have gone anyway (to pick up that mountain of holds we could finally start submitting as we drove home) but it was a special day to go because 14 October was the annular solar eclipse and they were having a watch party at the library, with free glasses and activities and everything. Well, we woke up to a stellar sunrise, but then the clouds kept building and by 10 am, it was looking very doubtful that we'd be able to see anything of the eclipse. In fact, it only got cloudier as time went on. So we didn't get to see it with our own eyes (bummer!), but we did have a live stream going on the screen so we could see what it looked like in New Mexico and Texas at least.

Lovely, bright sunrise. But those clouds look ominous.

Looking good in San Diego.

The crafts were fun while we waited.

This is all we could see at annularity. Whomp, whomp.

So close in Albuquerque!

Almost there . . .

Ta da! We all cheered at the library.

Isn't that ring of fire amazing?!

Cal's crafting.

I don't know whose this is, but
I stole it from a different blogger
and it's just amazing!

Meanwhile . . . in Heber City, the Olsens
got a glimpse through the clouds of the sun.

And these Elwoods in Logan enjoyed the show
as the clouds cleared just in time! Lucky ducks!
