First Day of School

It's that time of year again! Back to (Home)School! We officially started our school year on Wednesday 23 August with some back to school signs and photos, lots of read alouds, a brainstorm about brain breaks, a quick hike and nature journal at Middlefork, and the rest of the afternoon playing at BoondocksJust because we can.

I thought this was a fitting dictionary.com word of the day
for the first day of school . . . if we were going to a brick
and mortar school. Luckily homeschool seems to have
minimal collywobbles.

Some fun back-to-school (ish) books we read this week.

This just makes me chuckle every time.
Current name: Elemental Primary Institute

We cashed in some of the gift cards my parents gave us for Christmas and spent 4+ hours on go karts, bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, bowling, laser tag, and even dinner!

Rookie track! Here is cautious Cal.

And speedy Sam.

Sam was pedal to the metal and passed
that girl in the red car on one lap.

There were two disc golf courses and we did both.
Over the course (ha) of those two games, all three of
these folks got aces!

Yes, I'm taking pictures of the flowers
on the mini golf course.

Go-Karts! These ones go faster and you have to be taller
to drive them. Sam had fun, but he would much rather
drive himself on the rookie track.

Gregg tried two rounds in the batting cages.
(He says, "if you want to feel like you're
80 years old, spend 20 minutes in the batting
cages.")

Back on the rookie track - this time it was just Sam
and Cal.

Bumper boats - we played on these three different times,
and the last time was the perfect way to cool off after a hot
round of mini golf. Not only do you bump around, but
you can squirt each other, too, and we got soaked!

Solo rookie track time for Sam!
He was hooked!

Cal and Dad on one more go-kart ride.

Dinner was great, too!

What a great start to the year! (Thanks, mom/grandma and dad/grandpa!)
