Roundin' up the rest of July with just a few more pics to add to all the other fun we had this month!
7.3.23 (Grandma Blanchard spotted this in her car after spending some days with Cal and Sam) |
7.5.23 (Added this one to our baseball themed summer reads and activities. I enjoyed the writing style and the author’s accent as she read her book. Gregg was annoyed with the main character about halfway through so we finished without him and told him how it ended. ;)) |
7.5.23 (an impressive letter to MoJang Studios, makers of Minecraft from super fan, Callie) |
7.7.23 (just had to document how very many carts there were in winco when we walked in today) |
7.7.23 (stockin' up for Elwood reunion - it's something of a thing with us to taste fun oreo flavors together) |
7.10.23 (I’ve been on a Louisa May Alcott/Little Women/Little Men kick this summer thanks to RAR, and this picture book bio was excellent. I learned a lot about her that I didn’t know before, even after reading another bio a couple years ago!) |
7.11.23 (This one was amazing, again, not sure why I put it on hold but super happy to have read it. (Also, another coincidence like with From Dusk till Dawn: one of the authors of this one Jacqueline Briggs Martin who wrote Snowflake Bentley!) I especially loved the art in this one. If you’re looking for a good nonfiction picture book about bees, pick this one up!) |
7.11.23 (This was super cute storytelling but especially illustrating. The expressions on all the characters’ faces made all of us giggle as we were reading. Cal noticed it’s a similar plot line to The Mitten, which was a fun comparison to notice.) |
7.12.23 (this bug appeared in our house and I just had to snap a pic (or few) before we let it outside) |
7.12.23 (what is this thing?!) |

7.16.23 (A few gems that have been sitting in our library stack for many renewals and we can’t renew them anymore so we finally read them so we could take them back. (Ha! This happens alllll the time, especially in the summer!) I liked all of these for different reasons: The Longest Day had lots of cool customs and celebrations from around the world and throughout history about the sun and solstices. Brick by Brick was a cute story about a boy and his dad and how they do similar things; I really thought the art was so unique and clever and I enjoyed the bits of Spanish sprinkled through the story. From Dawn Till Dusk was a surprise Vermont story, with art by a favorite illustrator (she did Snowflake Bentley and won a Caldecott!); I don’t know why I put this one on hold but it was lovely, so I’m glad I did.) |
7.19.23 (Our good friends Jason (Swaze) and Shenell had their first baby! Grace Michelle Swasey Born 7/18/23 at 3:44 pm 8lbs 10 oz 20.5 inches) |
7.21.23 (the library always has some art in the entrance way and this month is by our homeschool art teacher/friend Jenny Harris. She made quilts and etching prints and sculptures and sketches and oil paintings all with historical events and people from Huntsville and the Ogden Valley) |

7.21.23 (the quilts were my fave, for sure!) |

7.21.23 (I learned so much this month by reading all these little blurbs and bios and enjoying the art) |
7.22.23 (Finished this one with Sam tonight. It’s just as delightful the ... I don’t know, 10th+? ... time through!) |
7.23.23 (Continuing the Little Women/Louisa May Alcott theme of this summer... I watched the new 2019 version of the movie last night, sandwiched between my reading the behind the scenes book. So fun to get some of those details about actors and costumes and sets and history of the story and author.) |
7.24.23 (oh, good, Ryan is now in the family pic! ha!) |
Every other round up here (whew!):
