Utah Symphony in Huntsville

A few months ago, I got an email from Mountain Arts and Music announcing that the Utah Symphony would be coming to Huntsville Park in August. I immediately put it on my calendar and "reserved" our tickets as soon as possible. I also shared the event with my parents and Gregg's parents, and they were excited to come, too.

Fast forward through the summer: it's finally August 7th! We got an email again from Mountain Arts and Music outlining all the fun classes and workshops that would be happening that day around town in Huntsville, starting with the truck arriving and transforming into the stage for the night. I love that they told us about this! Cal and Sam and I brought our lunch and sat in the park and watched them start the process. It was so cool!

Looks just like a normal semitruck trailer.

But then the sides open up to become the roof and rises
up, up, up into the air. The floor folds out from inside and
flattens out.

Not sure what this pose is all about, but
they asked to have their picture taken so
I obliged.

After lunch, but before the whole stage was finished, we headed over to the library where the kids had detective camp from 1-5. I left them there for most of that time, heading back home for a few hours. I brought Gregg back with me around 4:30. When the kids were done, we all walked over to Huntsville Square where we met up with Grandma Blanchard for the Listening and Conducting class with the symphony conductor. When that was done, we went back over to the park where the stage was complete and Grandpa Blanchard was holding down our seats. We visited the Musical Instrument Petting Zoo and stopped by all the booths from local sponsors.

Just a small slice of all the fun things
they had planned this afternoon/evening.

I just had to laugh at this when we looked
to see how close Paul and Kim were - it looks like
Paul was swimming through the reservoir
to the park!

Learning the ins and outs of conducting.

She loves the cello!

And she tried the trumpet, too! A bit of
sound came out!

Grandma tried the cello, too!

And now Sam on the trumpet!

Not pictured, but I tested a clarinet, which
was fun and new

Grandpa and Grandma Elwood arrived around 6:30 and we combined our picnic with them - they brought krab salad sandwiches and chips and we brought watermelon and rice crispy treats. It was a delightful dinner there in the park while we waited for the concert to start. We had still had some time to use up after we ate, so we walked over to the library again to show the grandparents the Huntsville history art (scroll down to 7.21.23 to see my faves) in the entrance. Finally, it was concert time . . . and it was totally worth the wait!

I loved every minute! Such a cool opportunity to have so close to home. And it was so fun to share with the grandmas and grandpas, too.
