Photos from Phones - May 2019 Round Up

We're all done with May, and I figured it's time to update the ol' blog with all our happenings of this month.  It's been lovely, even if it started out a little cooler and wetter than normal - we've still squeaked in plenty of outside time, and the "moisture" was certainly welcome after last year's hot, dry, smokey summer!  By the last week, it really started to feel like spring and summer with school being out and the temperatures rising and the valley and foothills turning a magnificent green.  A good, good month we had in May!

5.1.19
(I looked out the window and what did I see?)

5.1.13
(reminded me of another May Day we had -
this one in Colorado and with even more
of the fluffy white stuff!)

5.1.13

5.1.13
(so yes, it happens, and it was melted by the afternoon, which
makes it a-okay with me)

5.1.13
(when all of your holds come in at once - what should I read
next?!)

5.1.19
(see?  since the snow melted and the sky turned
blue, we took some time post-library pick-up
to play at the park)

5.1.19
(love these smiley faces!)

5.1.19
(Gregg enjoyed some blue skies, too, at NSAA in San Diego)

5.1.19
(the struggle is real - not only did I have four books
come in at the library today, I also had four books
waiting to be read at home. #bookwormprobs)

5.2.19
(here's Dad's scooter that he rode all over San
Diego while at his conference, including to
the airport when he was finished (which
earned him much praise and adoration from
fellow conference attendees))

5.2.19
(Thursday morning science time - and this time
Sam got to play, too!)

5.2.19
(Cal was a good teacher)

5.2.19

bonus videos!

5.2.19
(cal's faves!)

5.4.19
(Saturday is a special day - it's the day we install
the trailer hitch on the Subaru!)

5.4.19
(flower break!)

5.4.19
(the fritillaria are blooming!)

5.4.19
(back to the action in the garage)

5.4.19
(the kids got creative on the driveway with
the trunk contents - this was a fishing raft)

5.4.19
(helping)

5.4.19
(creative helping - see that shovel and chair and tire jack
holding up the muffler side of the hitch while Gregg tightens
things down?)

5.4.19
(all done!  nearly four hours later because of a rusted muffler,
but it's done!)

5.4.19
(Cal's homework sentences this week cracked me up)

5.5.19
(Sunday evening strolls)

5.5.19
(our tulips are blooming!)

5.6.19
(Sam and I made a detour to check out the
reservoir on our way home from dropping Cal
at school)

5.6.19
(it's filling up!)

5.6.19
(but I've definitely seen it higher, so we'll see how the next
few weeks go with snowmelt - see how much is still up there
at Snowbasin?)

5.6.19
(Heather texted me this pic of Grace because I love Indian
Paintbrush and she saw some on a hike - doesn't she look so big?!)

5.6.19
(exploring a new-to-us disc golf course + park
at Fort Buenaventura)

5.6.19
(big slide = big fun)

5.6.19
(#swingingsammy - haven't done one of those
pics for a while)

5.6.19
(family selfie time)

5.6.19
(stump posing, part 1)

5.6.19
(stump posing, part 2)

5.6.19
(the river was high, but this pic is of that interesting
bird on the end of that log)

5.6.19
(zoomed in - what is it?!)

5.6.19
(loved this book!)

5.7.19
(Cal talked me into buying some chocolate milk
powder when we were at the store - I didn't
notice what kind I had bought until we got home -
do you notice anything peculiar about this label?)

5.7.19
(how about this one?)

5.7.19
(still haven't tried it, but I'm curious if it tastes
different from the english version)

5.7.19
(I attempted Mel's "best" cinnamon rolls because a) I've
been dreaming about cinnamon rolls lately and b) I wanted to
make a treat for my ministering sisters for mother's day.  They
were HUGE!!  And not nearly as pretty as Mel's . . . at this point
I was kind of worried about how they'd turn out)

5.7.19
(verdict: GINORMOUS!!  What?!)

5.7.19
(frosted and nearly ready to share - and they tasted awesome,
so I worried needlessly)

5.8.19
(that hashtag says it all - that box is full of my
portion of the order, but I got these ones for
Heatha (at $1 a piece, no less!).  Gotta share
the book love however I can!)

5.8.19
(our plum tree blossoms are really there!  I always
think they'll never come back, but they always do.
Only this time they're a couple weeks late.
I usually see a memory pop up on facebook
on April 27th that they're blooming, and every time
I think, "no way that they're blooming this early!"
and then I look out and they are.  Except this year!)

5.8.19
(a storm's a comin' - and so are our leaves - finally!)

5.8.19
(love them!)

5.8.19

5.9.19
(I really love this tree and this view - in every season!
(check it out on 10.1.18, 11.8.18 and 12.4.18))

5.9.19
(food truck night at Valley Elementary was a bit
on the chilly side so they opened up the gym and
we dined on World's Greatest Corn Dogs in the
lunch room)

5.9.19
(this is half of a foot long corn dog that he
split with Cal)

5.9.19
(drizzled in honey!  a sticky delicious mess!)

5.10.19
(while making mother's days cards, Sam decided
to also draw a picture of him skiing - note the red
skis, the red hat, and the red gloves (and the gray
snow, because he didn't have a white marker).)

5.10.19
(a beautiful dandelion field and the snowcapped
Snowbasin in the background on our walk
to school)

5.10.19
(Callie's class bulletin board in the hallway at school this month.)

5.10.19
(Callie's cute butterfly.)

5.10.19
(I'm sorry, but I just really love the cheery yellow dandelion
fields all over our neighborhood right now.)

5.13.19
(Fabulous finds at the library.)

5.13.19
(dining on panda express outside the Ogden High pool before
we headed in to watch Coach Mikey and his varsity girls water
polo team)

5.13.19
(Cal and Sam insisted on making signs for Michael before
we came)

5.13.19

5.14.19
(heading home from the park - zoom in on Sam
and his standing pedaling skills!)

5.14.19
(it was such a warm day and he played hard!)

5.14.19
(Gregg sent me this pic from his conference
in Quebec to show me what he scored to bring
home for the kids.  Best dad ever!)

5.14.19
(mont tremblant, where Gregg's conference was)

5.14.19
(looks like a storm's a brewin' - it got really windy
for a few minutes, but then it blew away)

5.14.19
(the crabapples are blooming at last!)

5.14.19
(seriously good cloud day)

5.14.19
(monkeys in my tree)

5.14.19

5.14.19
(facetiming with Dad on the hammock)

5.14.19
(I snuck back out to the hammock for some
quiet time after the kids were in bed)

5.15.19
(another hammock time break, this time
mid-day during Sam's nap)

5.15.19
(reading and loving this one)

5.15.19
(right before I had to wake him up to head to school to pick
up Cal)

bonus video!

"waterfalls from dad"
5.15.19
(Gregg sent this video he took as he wandered
around Mont Tremblant in Quebec)

5.15.19
(they're so stinkin' cute!)

5.15.19
(from Becoming - I liked her story about skiing)

5.16.19
(Cal got to go on her first field trip ever - to the fire
station!)

5.16.19
(then all the kindergarteners and their parents and siblings
picnicked at the park - it was mayhem!)

5.16.19
(big beast I nearly stepped on tonight on our
walk around the loop)

5.17.19
(we're so glad when daddy comes home!!)

5.17.19
(I got a wild hair and decided to try Mel's Oreo
Chocolate Chip cookies
 - holy moly!  These are
dangerous!)

5.17.19
(moody may sky, but we didn't get too wet on our walk to get Cal!)

5.17.19
(hello, mid may - and fresh snow on the
seven sisters!)

5.17.19
(finally blossoms!)

5.17.19
(baked up and ready to be devoured)

5.18.19
(the lawn needed to be mowed, which meant
the tulips needed to be picked or shredded
in the mower)

5.18.19
(my helpers did a great job making this lovely
arrangement)

5.18.19
(workin' hard on the trailer!)

5.18.19
(home sweet home - I love this view.  and I love
that we have red tulips again this year!  Last
year they were ALL yellow, but the years before
we had red.  Don't know what's up with our bulbs,
but they sure keep us guessing)

5.19.19
(finished this one and really loved it.  it's a super
quick read since it's in graphic novel form.  I've heard
a lot of great things about it, but I never realized that
it was somewhat of a memoir of the author's childhood
experiences.  I think that made me like it even more.
Great stuff!)

5.19.19
(the rain started Thursday the 16th
and there is no end in sight.  Just
another spring in Utah.  Wait, what?)

5.20.19
(spring has sprung at the library!  and I don't
know why this photo looks blurry - on my phone
and on google photos it looks fine, but here
it is wigging out my eyes.  so if it is doing that
for you, too, I'm sorry!)

5.20.19

5.20.19
(this sight makes my heart go pitter pat - he
is IN LOVE with the nonfiction section at the
library.  today we got books about ants,
spiders, trains (always), dinosaurs (always),
drones, and firemen/trucks)

5.20.19
(one of said train books, though this one is not
from the nonfiction section)

5.20.19
(YES!  I love when I find these gems, and
believe me I take full advantage of them!)

5.21.19
(I thought they just needed a fancier name for red
potatoes, but then I realized they're maybe like a cross
between reds and yellows?  I haven't eaten any yet
but I'm intrigued)

5.22.19
(we got to help out at field day at the elementary
school, and in between groups of students, Sam
took advantage of all the bounce house time)

5.22.19

5.22.19
(here come the kindergarteners!)

5.22.19
(crazy callie!)

5.22.19
(my job was to stand at the bottom of this giant
slide and make sure the kids weren't bouncing,
running, or flipping down the slide.  it gave me
prime photo-taking-time when it was Cal's turn
to slide)

5.22.19

5.22.19
(between classes again - this time Sam got brave
and climbed to the top of the giant slide all by himself!)

5.22.19

5.22.19

5.22.19

5.22.19

5.22.19
(the gym was full of bounce houses - I guess this is field
day when the weather is cold and rainy?)

5.22.19
(by the time the 6th graders came through, he
was waiting in line right with the big kids (nbd))

5.22.19
(nothin' like a popsicle on a dreary, blustery day)

5.22.19

5.22.19
(Sam helped me make (and taste) a new hummus
recipe
- super yum!)

5.22.19
(zero apple blossoms on this tree this year)

5.22.19
(also zero)

5.22.19
(that's all we got - guess we're not making apple
sauce this fall)

5.23.19
(not our apple blossoms - just some beauties
on my walk home from school)

5.23.19
(at least they're blooming somewhere)

5.23.19
(Callie had a little awards ceremony and slide
show in her classroom and we got to come
watch.  She received the "bright ideas" award
for her class)

bonus video!

5.23.19

5.24.19
(Cal really wanted to give her teacher some
last-day-of-school cookies.  She made this adorable
card/note, too.)

5.24.19
(some goodies from this week)

5.24.19
(saw this at the library and automatically thought
of my mom and sister - so I sent it to them)

5.24.19
(they're the ones collecting rain and recording
it on an app every day!)

5.24.19

5.24.19
(Heidi Heckelbeck lover - she got like four new
ones and read half of one before we left the library)

5.24.19
(dinosaur lover - and yes, he was wearing this
same shirt on Monday when I took a similar
pic of him (but I did do laundry in between!))

5.24.19
(last day of kindergarten!)

5.24.19

5.24.19
(officially the first day of summer break (after
school got out early) and it sure doesn't feel like
summer!)

5.24.19
(look at how she's grown!)

5.24.19
(happy mail day!)

5.24.19
(at least the sun came out for a bit on our way
home from the last day of school - aren't these
amazing? (not mine, but we get to walk past
them every day on the way to school and back)
school

5.24.19
(tires are on (not pictured) and lights are getting
wired up!)

5.24.19
(last day of school celebration at Toad's (using
Cal's free attraction coupon from her
awards day at school))

5.24.19

5.24.19

5.24.19

5.24.19
(it was a fun course, and quite beautiful with
the spring flowers)

5.24.19

5.24.19
(we played on the "castle" course (they have three
different courses to choose from))

5.24.19
(after we got pizza at Ogden Pizzeria - it was delish!)

5.24.19

5.24.19

5.26.19
(sunday best - patriotic style just in time for
Memorial Day)

5.26.19
(look at these cute faces!)

5.26.19
(we had a fun group birthday party
in West Haven on Sunday afternoon
to celebrate Kage, Gregg and Cal
(and Father's Day to boot))

5.26.19

5.26.19
(birthday trifle!)

5.26.19

5.26.19
(marble time)

5.26.19

5.26.19
(isn't this the most adorable thing
you've ever seen?!)

5.26.19
(we enjoyed the perfect evening in the back yard with a little
golf and baseball practice)

5.27.19
(flower girl at the Hyde Park Cemetery)

5.27.19
(flower kids in Hyde Park)

5.27.19
("Grandma Lamb's" grave (and Grandpa's, too))

5.27.19
(my great grandparents Elwood)

5.27.19
(my great grandparents Thornley)

5.27.19
(my grandma Thornley)

5.27.19
(my great grandparents Anderson)

bonus video!

5.27.19
(the rain stopped and they got outside)

5.28.19
(playing with her new (early bday present)
stamps from gma and gpa blanchard)

5.28.19
(she wanted to do math facts, so I wrote a whole
page full and she stamped the answers)

5.28.19
(she got 100%!)

5.28.19
(choke cherry blossoms in my backyard)

5.28.19
(have I mentioned the rain?  the mushrooms seem to be thriving
because of it)

5.28.19

5.28.19
(our lilacs are almost ready to open!)

5.28.19

5.28.19

5.28.19
(don't know why the coloring is different on this one - lighting
must have changed)

5.28.19

5.28.19

5.29.19
(I liked these first two paragraphs - I think I could
get along with Miss Payne and Miss Cannon)

5.29.19
(finished!  (this it the book the page above is from)
and I really like it!)

5.30.19
(we met up with Gregg's parents "in the middle of nowhere"
for a picnic lunch in a field turned parking lot on the side of the
road one Thursday afternoon)

5.30.19
(we were also there to watch the Northrup Grumman
rocket test fire, along with probably a couple
thousand others)

5.30.19
(the crowd was huge!  we got there more than an hour early
and sat and ate in the sun while we waited for the test to start)

bonus videos!

5.30.19
(it was really, really cool!)

5.30.19
(the test lasted for about 2 minutes and the fire was so bright
we couldn't even look at it directly.  I loved the cloud of smoke
that was created and watching how it changed shape and color
as time went on)

5.30.19

5.30.19

5.30.19

5.30.19
(after the rocket motor test, we went home,
hooked up the trailer for its maiden voyage out of
the valley, and headed to Home Depot to buy wood!)

5.31.19
(my friend Erin is an artist and she stayed up
late one night doodling this cute picture, which
she said was inspired by me because I "love
books more than anyone (she) knows".  Haha.
I'm honored!)

5.31.19
(we enjoyed a little walk/scootering on the bike path
by the reservoir, which always ends at the beach
by middle inlet that has the best trees to climb and
play in.  Our favorite and usual tree was surrounded
by water since the lake is so full right now, but we
found others that were still super fun)

5.31.19

5.31.19

5.31.19
(isn't that view magnificent?!)

5.31.19
(yogic scootering)

5.31.19
(Heather recommended this one to me and after
reading the first chapter I already saw magical
results!  I'm a believer!  (if I can just remember
to use the tools and tips instead of defaulting
into grouching and threatening).)

5.31.19
(Cal came up with the theme and most of the activities we
nailed down for her friend party coming up soon!  she's so
excited!)
