Photos from Phones - May 2023 Round Up

This is a surprisingly short photo round up post since we had so much outside time and lots of fun fieldtrips. Let's get to it!

5.2.23
(we had a groupon for bowling and galactic mini
golf at Sparetime Lanes in Roy that we used with
our friends the Larsens one evening before the deal expired)

5.4.23
(Cal made this cute flower crown from a kit the
library was giving out. I thought it looked so cute
and I was extra impressed that she wore it for a couple
of days, even outside of the house!)

5.5.23
(Gregg's mom Kim invited me to BYU
Women's Conference, which was a super
great day with her)

5.5.23
(she had to get a pic with BYU in it)

5.5.23
(I bought a world-famous mint brownie
to bring home to the fam - this thing was huge!
we cut it up and ate it over two days between
the four of us!)

5.5.23
(Gregg and the kids ate at Freddy's that night, while Kim
and I went to Brick Oven in Provo after the conference)

5.8.23
(Cal drew this rainbow trout as part of a Utah Wildlife
contest)

5.8.23
(Sam drew this fox for the same contest)

5.9.23
(A really fun and springy RAR family book club this month based on the book Celia Planted a Garden, about someone I had never heard of before (Celia Thaxter) but now really love! She was a poet who loved the Isles of Shoals in Maine and lived there most of her life. She made a beautiful garden on the island. And we did all the rabbit trails from there: gardens, lighthouses, hummingbirds, poetry, impressionist art (she had a lot of artist friends), collages (a la Melissa Sweet’s illustrating style). There’s even a pbs documentary about her garden that was great. I love when we can deep dive with a book like this. The perfect wrap up of our school year this month!)

5.9.23
(We got fancy with our poetry teatime treat, inspired
by our family book club guide for Celia Planted a Garden)

5.9.23

5.12.23
(Another idea from our Celia family book club guide was to make
collages from seed catalogues . . . so we did on plain notecards
which we bundled up and gave to grandmas for Mother's Day)

5.12.23
(took me a couple months, but I finished my first knitted
thing!)

5.14.23
(and then my second one took just a few hours!
I wrapped them up and gave them to my mom and grandma
for mother's day :)

5.15.23
(we studied hummingbirds and learned so many things about them
(again as part of our family book club about Celia Thaxter - have
I mentioned before how much I love Read Aloud Revival?!))

5.21.23
(Sam's tooth had been sticking out at a crazy
angle and we've been bugging him to pull it out,
then one Sunday morning, he decided to try a twist
and all of a sudden it was in his hand!)

5.21.23
(belated Mother's Day pic since we forgot
last week)

5.21.23
(sure lucky to be their mom!)

5.22.23
(I didn't realize Gregg had a picture of his
new smile, so I took another one the next day)

5.22.23
(Sam built this AT-AT walker all with his own
LEGO, just from looking at picture in a book)

5.22.23
(this was an interesting premise / structure
for a memoir, but I thought it was cool - she
tells stories from her life and relates them to fairy tales,
some familiar, some not)

5.24.23
(fave bouquet! picked by Sam)

5.25.23
(I had this one on hold for a long time and it finally came in, just in time for us to finish our last music day of school with it. It was awesome! We enjoyed the story of Guido, sang along to the song, and read all the back matter to learn so much about music and monks and solfege! Really great stuff.)

5.26.23
(I’ve been hearing lots of chatter about the new movie out recently (I just barely watched the trailer and it looks cute) but I have never read the book! So I put it on hold (and had to wait since all the copies were checked out, probs because of the movie news, I’m guessing) and when it finally came in I finished it in two sittings. It’s cute! I know it gets all kinds of controversial coverage, and I can see where book banners are coming from when they challenge it, but I thought it was fun and clever and actually quite thoughtful. Glad to have read it.)

5.26.23
(This was a sweet and fun read aloud, though readers looking for short chapters, large type, and plenty of illustrations would love it as an independent read, too, I imagine. Sam wanted it to “go on longer”, and there was a hint of more to come on the last page, so we found out there is a sequal, which we
read and loved, too!)

5.29.23
(we visited a lot of them, but I didn't count to see if that number is true)

5.30.23
(Cal made some mighty puffy German pancakes for breakfast!)

5.31.23
(Well this just makes me want to bake allll the things. We
ended up tryin the Apricot White Chocolate Overnight Scones
for Gregg’s birthday breakfast and they were 👌🏼!
