I can't even believe it, really, but our girl is ten! A decade! Holy moley! What a ride it has been, from itty bitty baby burrito being bounced on the big red ball to creative, curious, confident, clever Callie! Oh how we love her! And we had fun celebrating her big milestone birthday with presents, more bowling with a buddy (she opted for one friend at the bowling alley, partly because it was easier for us to transport, and partly because she seems to be past the phase of having lots of friends over in our backyard right now), pizza and frazil for lunch at the park, more pizza for dinner (her nickname isn't Pizza for nothing!), and leftover cake from our birthday bowling bonanza last week. She's the best!
Gregg whipped up this amazing anniversary logo for Cal's poster. He's got a new project of collecting these and compiling them all on one site so others can get inspiration. He's been telling Callie about it, and now she's on the lookout for anniversary logos everywhere we go (and she's great at spotting them!). |
Sam picked out this slushie truck lego set. |
He was so excited to give it to her and point out the fun features. It was especially fun since the slushie machines look like frazil machines, which we found out later that day when we got our free friday frazil. |
Here's a piping kit with big nozzles that she's been wishing she had for various baking and deviled egg making adventures. |
Ah! She figured out what it was. haha |
Lots of fun tips! |
So excited about the outline markers! |
Trying them out - they're pretty magical, really. Sparkly silver in the inside, with a sparkly color that flows around it to make an outline. So cool! |
Some fabric squares to sew into something cute. |
And books - this one is a trace and draw butterflies and birds book. |
And this one is patterns for mini amigarumi crocheted animals. |
She's borrowed it from the library, but it will be great to have her own copy. |
Breakfast of champions. Chocolate chip waffles and sausage. |
Here's Capri and her fun perler beads and friendship bracelet string gifts. |
Time to bowl! |
And that, my friends, is my special video for joining the 175 club! I rolled like 6 strikes in this game! What?! |
Oh yea! Record score there! |
Our Game 1 scores. |
This is the best! |
And almost done with Game 2! (Spoiler: everyone did much better than the first game, and I did much worse!) |
Capri was there, too, and she had one, too. |
Marco's pizza at High Adventure Park in Ogden. A lovely spot for a picnic. |
Was that pizza lunch enough pizza for one day? Heck no! Not for Pizza Callie! |
Doesn't she look so grown up all of a sudden?! Ack! |
And of course we ate some cake! |
Family group shot with the ten year old! |
Where do I even begin to describe Callie as a ten year old? She loves everything, it seems, and is good at anything she tries. And a lot of last year's list (like the year before) is still the same. Which I love.
I've already said she's creative:
- taught herself how to crochet, and figured out the tricky magic ring so she can make little critters!
- builds debris huts anywhere and everywhere she can find a twig and a trunk
- builds intricate Minecraft structures
- writes wonderful letters and scripts and stories and poems (one of which won honorable mention in a Utah Outdoors contest)
- paints with watercolors
- bakes donuts and other yummy treats, and tries new colors or flavors just like the kids on JBO
and curious:
- always looking up info in books and online to answer questions
- reads, reads, reads about sewing, crocheting, outdoor survival, Minecraft, baking,{insert interest of the moment}
- thinks deeply and asks good questions about things that are on her mind
and confident:
- she can talk to adults (librarians and teachers) without getting (too) nervous
- she made a goal to jump off the diving board this summer and she's already done it! (not on her birthday, but a few weeks later, which I can write about here because I am slow in posting ;)
- she still loves all the online word games
- she's also a jigsaw puzzler
- she's a natural speller
- she's sneaky in staying up later than she should reading
She's strong willed sometimes. And super helpful many times. And she's always grateful (always has been - she's my favorite person to give gifts to, hands down!). We love her and can't wait to see what the next ten years brings (but not too quick!).
