We're Here for RSL!

We've been getting emails for discounts to recent Real Salt Lake games this season, but hadn't pulled the trigger and actually gone to one with our whole family for a variety of reasons (the games were late, or the weather was cold, or we had family plans, etc.).  So this week, when the email came offering $15 tickets and the game time was slated for 1:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon, the conditions seemed just about perfect.  And then we looked at the weather.  It started raining on Thursday evening (May 16th) and the ten day forecast showed storms every. single. day (for as far as we can see)!  Blah!  Who wants to sit in the rain for a soccer game?

Saturday (May 18th) came around, and while it was cool and rainy in the morning, it actually stopped and the sun came out around 11:00 am.  When I saw it was drying up, I checked the hourly forecast for the rest of the day.   It looked good, and when I suggested that we could still make it to the game (at 11:20), Gregg got online and bought our tickets while I got dressed and grabbed some food for the kids to eat in the car on the way and gathered up all the coats and hats and gloves in case it was cold.  We hustled out the door at 11:30, made it to the parking lot just in time to snag a seat on the shuttle bus (two psyched kids with that one!), and walked into the stadium right at kickoff.  The skies stayed dry, the kids had a blast at their first ever MLS game, RSL won 3-0!, we played on the plaza during halftime, and finished it off with lunner at Crown Burgers after.  It really was a fantastic spontaneous fun day.  Couldn't have been better!

We told Sam he should nap on the drive down so
he'd be happy and rested for the game.  I'll give
him credit for trying, but this is definitely a fake
sleeping pose.

One excited boy (and his dad) riding on a bus to a soccer game!

Ready to roll!

It was cool, hence the jackets, but it was dry, so we were quite
comfortable.

Halftime shenanigans.

Corn hole.  (They're pros by now.)

Soccer bowling.

Sam's turn.

His shots missed all the pins, but he still got some free
sunglasses, so life was good.

More soccer ball kicking stations.

And soccer mini golf!

Cal's homie glasses.  :D

Hey guys, the game's this way!

Cal and Sam also got free xfinity RSL string bags
to stash all their swag

The guy in the red across the aisle from us was
Kyle Beckerman's doppleganger.

Burger time!

The non-burger eaters on this side.

5:21 pm and almost home.  This is the real deal.
