September Hiking

I almost forgot to do a separate hiking post this month!  I just posted everything we hiked on in the monthly update post and moved on with my life.  But then I got thinking today that something was missing so I decided to move everything here (I crave consistency in my blogging apparently).  So if you've already seen our September Round-Up, you've already seen these pics.  But if not, then here you are.  September was so good!  We started out with summer-like hikes and ended up with leaf hikes and did quite a few "lake hikes" and all were marvelous.

5 September 2019: Environmental Center Disc Golf Course
We totally count our disc golfing outings as hikes, especially because on this one we have to hike to get to the course.  The tepee at the top is always a highlight.  And we did this one in record time - from car to course and all nine holes and back to car in just about an hour.  A mighty fine way to spend an evening, if you ask me.

Look closely and you'll see Cal's (orange) disc in the air!

Group shot!  (I think we're cute.)

6 September 2019: Old Highway Beach
Sam and I took a walk down to the lake one morning, and while we were there we explored along the shoreline to the southeast as well as wander on a couple of the little trails that lead off the old road, up and over a big hill, and down to the lake in a different spot.

This is mostly do document the water level, which is MUCH
higher than last year at this time.

I liked this cliff.  Also, I spy Sam.

I love this color scheme.

I see you, fall colored leaves!

8 September 2019: Old Highway Beach (with the rest of the fam!)
One Sunday evening we had a little free time and an inclination to get outside, so we walked to the reservoir and explored on the beach/shoreline that Sam and I had wandered on a couple days before.  We went further this time and discovered what we now call "Skip Rock Beach", which was just as it sounds: covered in the perfect oval, smooth, flat, thin rocks just piled on top of each other waiting to be skipped.  So we happily obliged.  And many of us got our personal bests that evening.

In case you forgot how beautiful Eden is.

13 September 2019: Skyline Trail to the Ridge
Date hike!  Gregg's parents had practically begged us to go on a date so they could watch the kids.  So after Sam's birthday date they stuck around and fed the kids pizza and watched a movie while Gregg and I set off to reach the ridge on the Skyline Trail, something we have not yet accomplished in our (unofficial) Ogden Valley Hiking Checklist.  It was a warm afternoon, but glorious to be out on a trail at an adult pace with my dishy.  What a view!  We finished it off with dinner at Pat's - couldn't ask for anything more.

Group shot!

Straightened group shot - but it looks blurry for some reason?

Home sweet home.

It's trying to be fall!
14 September 2019: Hidden Lake at Powder Mountain
Terrell invited Gregg to join him on another PowMow mountain bike ride like they did last year, so while the boys (men) biked, the moms and kids hiked.  We opted for Hidden Lake this time since Heatha and Grace haven't done that one yet.  It's a great hike TO the lake because it's all downhill.  We had to do a bit more convincing to get the kids back up the mountain to the parking lot, but when we got there we found the dads waiting for us, which was a happy sight.

Cute hiking cousins.

It was hidden for a while, but we found it!

Rock skipping time.

One more ski lift shot post-hike for good measure.

She loves to pose.

22 September 2019: Wolf Canyon Trail (the Upward Road)
I begged my family one Sunday afternoon to go on a leaf walk with me.  It didn't take much begging, actually, and we ended up on "the machinery hike" (though we didn't take the down road toward the machinery this time).  We just wandered up the road at the fork for a while and enjoyed the outside and the view and the few changing leaves along the way.

Cal was giving Gregg a ride down the hill on her
shoulders.

How 'bout that view, eh?

The hills are so close to exploding with color.

A few trees, like this one, were in their full glory.

24 September 2019: North Fork River Trail
A lovely Tuesday Night Hike for the sole purpose of finding fall colors.  We found some!  Still not peak on this trail, or in this area, but lovely all the same.

26 September 2019: East Side of Causey Trail (I don't know the name)
My friend Holly told me that you can see the salmon spawning at the north end of Causey, too, without the whole 2.5 mile hike on Skull Crack Trail that we've done in the past.  We decided to check it out one evening after dinner.  Unfortunately we either missed the fish this season, or there were none on this end of the reservoir this year, or my friend was telling me a lie, but we saw zero red salmon (or any color salmon for that matter).  But we did see plenty of red leaves (and orange and yellow, too) and we got a new trail checked off, since we've never walked on that one before.

If you need me, I'll be in the mountains.

27 September 2019: Environmental Center Road
I just can't stand staying inside when I know that the leaves are peaking all around me (and big rain/snow storms are in the forecast), so I sent out a desperate last-minute text to a handful of friends one Friday morning asking if anyone wanted to brave the drizzly weather on a friend hike.  (I won't call this a tyke hike since I didn't invite the whole list, though I probably should have.)  Two friends texted right back that they were up for the adventure, so we met up with them at the gate and walked up the road to the Environmental Center.  Sam brought along discs, but the other boys weren't super into the disc golf action (plus there was a pesky stray dog that kept trying to grab the discs from the boys that put a damper on the golf game).  It sprinkled on and off the whole morning, but we stayed dry and warm and cheery and I was SO happy we did this one.

Leo, Finn and Sam - a fun group of boys to hike
with this morning.

Sam took a few practice tosses and had some great putts.

Group shot!  Holly and Leo, Megan and Finn, and Me and Sam
(and the annoying dog that they were all terrified of).

27 September 2019: Skyline Trail
Yep, out again.  Soakin' it up before the rain hits (though we did get sprinkled on on this one, too).  Not peak yet on this trail, at least on this lower portion, but we still had a good time.

These three played red light/green light all the
way down the trail.

Who are these goofballs?

All the heart eyes for my dishy in the forest in fall.

30 September 2019: Stringtown Shoreline
We ate dinner at the school for Food Truck Night, but it was SO loud in the gym where the tables were set up (because it was SO cold outside) and the band was playing that we skedaddled as soon as our food was eaten.  We drove down Stringtown Road to get away from the noise and ended up enjoying a lovely shoreline "hike", heading east and around north again till we found a little hidden cove and did some rock splashing.  Practically perfect.

a sloth."  - Callie, age 6

Guess who's been here?

Busy beaver.
