May Vacay {Day 1: Eden to Klamath Falls}

We took off on an epic road trip adventure that has been over a year in the works during the first week of May. We started talking about our "loop" back in early 2020. We had scheduled it to start right as school was ending in the end of May, but then you know what happened in March . . . So we decided to postpone. Maybe we'd be able to get out there in the summer sometime. And then the fires started in California. No bueno and no thank you. Postponement continued. We even tried to make it work a bit earlier in 2021, when Megan was in Bend for a few weeks, but the timing just didn't work out. Finally, we picked the first week of May 2021 . . . and booked a few hotels. It was really happening! And it was totally worth the wait! It was perhaps the best family vacation we have ever taken, and that is saying something! In the next handful of posts I'll be taking you along on a recap of our Oregon-California-Nevada trip (with a little bit of Idaho in there, too, though we just passed through with only a lunch stop). Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Day 1: Saturday 1 May, 2021: Eden, UT -> Caldwell, ID -> Burns, OR -> Klamath Falls, OR

We loaded up the car on Friday night so we were ready to hit the road as soon as we woke up and got dressed on Saturday morning. That translated to roughly 7:00 ish, with muffins, string cheese, and apples in the car for breakfast. We drove to just past Boise, where we found a park in Caldwell to get out and stretch and eat some lunch.

Finished this one that we had started
on our Goblin/Arches trip last week.
Such a great story and storytelling.

This was short and sweet and hilarious.
Gregg may have enjoyed it most of all -
he was cracking up!

Caldwell, ID lunch stop park.

Then it was back in the car for more driving and audiobooks and podcasts and trivia games, till we got to Burns, OR for another potty and stretch break at a park. That was a quick one and we pressed onward toward Klamath Falls, where we called it a day, warmed up our leftover lasagna for dinner in the hotel microwave, and crashed for the night. Day 1, over 11 hours of driving, done!

Burns, OR pit stop park.

Their announcement board could use a little love.

Ha - that has been hanging up for a while!

Monkey bar champion of the world! (Even these
crazy up and down ones.)

Little Free Library find - we always peek
in these when we find them on our journeys,
but I've never taken a book or left a book
until today. Cal chose Abel's Island and Sam
snagged T is for Tarheel (one of those great
ABC books about North Carolina).

Dinnertime in the hotel in Klamath Falls.
