Remember September {Bear Lake}

We had been wanting to get to Bear Lake to dip our toes in the water all summer but never got around to it until early September (8th-10th).  We are pretty lucky to have an uncle and aunt who own a condo in Garden City and even luckier that they let us use it for a couple of days and nights.  We left after dinner on Thursday evening, driving up over Monte Cristo and around the lake from the south end.  We got to the condo in time for bedtime for the kiddos (and us).   Friday morning we woke up and baked some scones and ate some yogurt.  We had high hopes for warm temps on Friday, our planned Beach Day, but, alas, that was the day of the wind and cool temps (of course).  We managed to have a good day regardless, visiting the park by the condo (too windy to really enjoy it), "playing" some tennis, reading stories and playing games while Sam napped, playing and picnicking at the Garden City Park (Cal began her now love-affair with slides!!), walking on the boardwalk from the park to the beach, more napping, more beach (for just an hour, but fun and sandy nonetheless), baths, pizza, hide 'n' seek, and bedtime again.  Whew.  Good day.  Saturday we played again at the park, cleaned up the condo, ate lunch at LaBeau's and drove home via Logan Canyon with a couple of detours to drive by Beaver Mountain and Tony Grove, and a potty stop in Logan at Grandpa and Grandma Elwood's (who weren't home, but we stopped anyway).  A great little weekend getaway for us kids.

Goooood mornin', Bear Lake!

Lovely view from the master bedroom ledge.

Slippy sliders.

Sam could do this one all by himself practically.

Pickin' up a few shells.

So much blue!

On the boardwalk.

The condo overlooks the marina.  Picture perfect
every time.

Back to the beach in our swimmers.

My attempts to capture the blue in the lake
were not working as well as I hoped.

Sam did not love the beach earlier this year in
Oregon, but I think having the ability to walk
really upped the fun this time around.

Splishy splishy splosh.

bonus video!

sam's puddle splashing

(he didn't seem to mind the cold falls one bit!)

Hoodies and swimsuits.  Naturally.

It's hard to get a family selfie when I'm holding
the camera (and Gregg is holding both kids!).

Another morning, another sunrise over the marina.

Just driving a boat.  Waiting for some french fries.

I hope this sign never comes down.

I told her to smile.  I got this.

Did Sam like the shake?

The answer is YES.

He loves his ice cream.

Tony Grove views.

Tony Grove driving views (sorry about the window glare).

  1. What a fun little weekend getaway! We should plan a Bear Lake day next summer - I can't remember the last time I actually got in the water (more than just my toes anyway).
