Oh Sam! What a year it's been (pretty much the fastest year ever, I think!). Sam is so fun and so busy as a newly minted one-year-old. Here's what he's up to:
- squawks/screams a lot
- starting to point to things he wants
- understands a lot - "go get your shoes" (he can and does do it! - I think because he loves the fact that shoes = outside) or "let's take a bath" (heads straight down the hall saying "ba! ba!")
- starting to say some "real" words: ba (bath), bah (ball), ba-ba (bottle), ah-duh (all done), oosh (something like that) (shoes), mmm (more, food, I'm hungry)
- will fold his arms (really clasps his hands) when we are saying a prayer (did this all on his own)
- loves to turn the pages while reading stories - favorite story is What Does the Cow Say (it has lots of flaps to lift)
- stats from one year well check: weight = 21 lbs 3 oz (47th percentile - the doc was very happy to see him back up where he started and said to keep him on formula for another month or so to make sure the trend continues), height = 31 inches (88th percentile), head circumference = 46.5 cm (62nd percentile)
- made a basket by himself on Cal's little nerf basket
- has his favorite drawers and cupboards that he always opens and dispenses the contents all over the floor any chance he can get
- loves bathtime with his sister (tries to climb in fully clothed)
- walking really well and now trying to run everywhere
- sort of a finicky eater - doesn't want to sit and eat but will eat on the run as long as we keep chasing him down with food
- stopped nursing at 11 months
- sleeps pretty well, but still wakes up at least once or twice per night
- naps twice per day except on days when we have things in the morning and then he does one nap those days (or a cat nap on the way home) - I think we're starting the transition from two to one nap a day
- learning how to tease/taunt his sister
- loves the garbage can and the toilet
- still so drooly - his shirts are always soaked (but no new teeth as of late)
- favorite food = frozen peas
- refuses to eat with a baby spoon but given a bite on a metal spoon he'll usually take it
- will wave goodbye
- refuses to wear a bib
- loves to get inside dishwasher and help unload it
- loves to climb the stairs at the park and go down the slide by himself or with mom
- loves to sit next to Cal in the stroller
- loves to drink water from a straw sippy (finally has his own but still grabs Cal's whenever he can get a chance)
- in the big boy car seat (still facing backwards)
- wears 12-18 month clothes mostly, still in size 3 diapers till the package runs out
