Adventuring {August Hikes}

We had a marvelous time hiking around home during August.  We also had some bonus national park hiking in Glacier and Yellowstone, which was awesome.

2 August 2018: Wheeler Canyon Trail with the Tyke Hikers.  Last year we discovered a cool, shady spot under a bridge, down at the creek, so we made that our destination again.

Kids or mountain goats?

Group shot with the kiddos: Harvey, Leo, Bennett, Zoey, Sam,
Nora, Callie, Charlotte, Emmeline, Lincoln, Lillie, Cruze.

15 August 2018: Green Pond Trail at Snowbasin. Nothing was very green this time of year, but we had a fun time with a few other tyke hikers anyway.

Cal, Sam, Elon and Gavin.

Brown pond?

Lots of muddy kids came out of this much..

Playing dinos on the hike back.

We always finish up Snowbasin hikes with time
at the playground!

20 August 2018: Old Highway Beach Access Trail from the west side trailhead.  We started visiting the lake and walking along the shore/exposed road bed (and counting it as a hike) as the water level dropped late into the summer.

As far east as we could go along the old highway, but yonder
shore is where we usually play at the beach and start walking
on the old highway.  Fun to see it from the opposite side of the
lake this time.

Great cloud day!

22 August 2018: Wolf Canyon Trail with the Tyke Hikers.  Our friends told us about the cool machinery at the end of this trail, so we checked it out earlier in the spring with just our family.  Finally it was time to bring the tyke hikers, which turned out to be our last official Tyke Hike of the summer, since school started the next week and scheduling turned tricky.  We enjoyed some cooler temps and cloudy skies and lots of friends on this trail.

Group shots lately have only been the kids: Harvey, Theodore,
Bennett, Leo, Miles, Callie, Sam, Charlie, Moriah.

My favorite tyke hikers of the lot.

Snack time!

Stream explorations.

23 August 2018: North Arm Trailhead - a morning walk/hike to check out the bridge situation.

Autumn-looking color palette.

My faves.

First bridge is down to the nubbins - and those giant cement
blocks are new.

Still no bridge, but the river is dried up, so we
could cross over if we really wanted to.

Solo walk with Sam since sister was being grouchy and decided
to stay home by herself.  (Gregg was working down the hall,
of course.)

27 August 2018: Pineview Trail from the North Arm Trailhead.  AT LAST!!!!  We've been waiting and wanting to hike this trail for almost two years (the last time we were on it was November 2016) - the bridge got washed out in the spring of 2017 and it has been closed for all of last summer and this summer.  They've been working on it, slowly, but until now the water was still there, so any attempt at crossing was going to be wet.  Plus there were always signs saying the trail was closed, which we tried to obey.  But dry riverbed plus no signs in sight meant we were hiking that thing for a Monday Night Hike for sure!  It was wonderful to be back!  And the fall vibes were starting up for sure, so that was delightful.

So green where the water used to be.

Gah!  Too much cuteness here!

One red leaf.

Pretty ripe elderberries.
