Cousin Hike in Logan

One of the last normal things we did "before" (but that is not even accurate - really it was more "the beginning of") the coronavirus takeover of life and everything was to make a visit to Logan to hang out with the cousins.  Heather was spending a day or two and she invited us to come on a hike with her on Thursday afternoon (March 12th).  I asked Callie if she wanted to come along or go to school and she opted to play hookie (little did she know she'd only have one more day at school before it was cancelled - dun dun dun - spoiler alert!  I wonder what she would choose looking back?) so after breakfast we drove to Providence.

We hung out and played and visited with a couple of my uncle's kids who were staying at my parents' house (back story: Randal and his family had come up from Arizona for their spring break on Sunday the 8th since Grandpa Thornley was not doing well and they stayed through the funeral and into the next week before heading back home).

At lunch time we met up with Shelly and kids at First Dam for a picnic and then a hike.  During our lunch is when we found out that the governor had said that no gatherings of 100+ were to be had within the state due to try to limit the spread of the virus.  Of course we were talking about the funeral and whether it would still happen and would school be canceled and what about church?  So many questions!  But luckily we didn't dwell on them too much once we started hiking!  The sky was so blue and the trail was dry and fun to explore with all the kids.  We had a marvelous afternoon together!

The kids found a duck egg on the side of the reservoir and were
determined to make a nest to "protect it from predators".

We started our hike by walking through a tunnel under the highway!

The boys took the lead on the highline trail.

Pit stop by a cairn.

Cute cairn cousins.

Maggie enjoyed the ride!

Our destination was this "tunnel" covered in
graffiti - in hindsight we really shouldn't have
listened to that dude who suggested it would be
fun for the kids to see.  He clearly underestimated
the reading skills of some of these kids.  Perry,
here, was doing his best to keep the especially
inappropriate stuff covered up until we could get
the rest of the kiddos out of there!

Group shot - minus the Thornley boys who went on ahead. I
spy Bradley peeking behind a rock!

I spy the Wellsvilles!

Group shot once we caught up to the big boys again!
back: Perry, Mom, Mugs, Heatha, Cooper, Shelly, Maggie, Kim
middle/front: Sam, Evy, Bradly, Callie, Grace, Adam

It was a fun get together that in hindsight I'm so grateful for, since I don't know when we'll be hiking (or anything) as a group again!
