Day 2 (Monday, July 22nd) of our North Carolina adventure was actually our first real day on the island. We took advantage of the heat and the close beach and made the sand and surf our first destination as soon as we ate breakfast. We loved the calm, clear, WARM water and soft, soft sand! Callie discovered the salty ocean is not the tastiest thing to get hit in the face with, but by the end of the trip she was over her fear of the waves and frolicked and splashed with the rest of the fam, with a huge smile plastered on her face!
After a few hours at the beach (we didn't last as long as the older cousins, but that was okay because we were only staying about a quarter of a mile away) we walked back to the house for lunch and naps. The rest of the afternoon we visited and played and ate BBQ burgers and then walked to the sound side of the island (even closer than the beach for us!) to watch a pretty (windy) sunset. Grandma unveiled the family reunion t-shirts after we got back to the house and then it was time for bed.
Our house's name sign - it was fun to see all the creative names and designs on all the houses in the area. |

We walked across this boardwalk over the dunes every day when we went to the beach. |

We found monopoly money ALL over the house by the end of the week. Let's just say they had a unique way of playing this game. |
