Day 5 (Thursday, July 25th) was wedding day for Ryan and Lea. It was a short and simple and beautiful ceremony on the beach officiated by Paul in the evening right before sunset, followed by a delicious dinner at the Oceanfront Grille (right there in the complex with the pool and basketball courts and beach access that we'd been using all week). We capped it off with cheesecake back at the house, and it was completely wonderful (the wedding and the cheesecake).
Since the wedding wasn't till 6:30, we filled the day with tennis lessons (for the 6-7 year olds), pedicures (for the women, a little bachelorette party hosted by Heather), makeovers (for Lea and Heather), sight-seeing and souvenir shopping (for our family), and hairdos (by Laurel for all the girls). Lea had made the dresses for all the girls, based on fabric choices of Liz and Katie, and they turned out darling!
We made our way to the designated spot on the beach. Paul said a few words about marriage then switched to German (who knows besides Lea and Ryan what he was saying?!). The bride and groom read/recited their vows in German and then they kissed and were married! (Paul got an online license/ordination to be able to officiate the wedding, Gregg and Heather were witnesses, Scott held my phone with Lea's mom and sister on Facetime so they could see the wedding in Germany, Melia was the ring bearer and Callie and Liz were the flower girls. The only person not in our family who was there was the photographer, who took photos during the ceremony and then family photos of all of us afterward.)
As we finished up with our photos we made our way to the restaurant. Our kids tried (and loved) fried calamari! Gregg and I both ordered a crab cake (they're kind of famous for them there) with Shrimp Wellington (they're shrimp wrapped in philo with avocado and cilantro inside - whoa delicious!).
What a day and what a couple! We are so happy to have Lea in the family!
