OBX Blanchard Reunion {Day 8: OBX to ORF to DEN}

Day 8 (Sunday, July 28th) dawned early for the Farrers, who hit the road at 6 am to get back to CT (with a pit stop in DC).  Grandpa and Grandma took the kids, dwindled down to four now, to the Oceanfront complex to play on the little mini golf putting practice area and to try their hands at shuffleboard and then to the rec center to play racquetball and ping pong while Gregg and I and Lea and Ryan did the final clean up of the house. We met up with everyone at the rec center, said our goodbyes and made our way off the island.

Once we got off the island, we stopped for a pit stop at Morris Farm Market in Barco, NC.  Paul and Kim had visited this stand 10 years ago on a trip to North Carolina and wanted to peek in again.  We filled up on all the samples we could hold of fresh fruit (cantaloupe and peaches!), flavored ciders (the best one was this tart green grape cider that I can't remember the name of!), salsas, dressings, jams, nuts, candy, you name it!  We found a park to let the kids run around in the heat, ate our meatloaf sandwiches and then headed toward the airport in Norfolk, with a detour across one of the bridges that turns into a tunnel under the ocean.  That was cool!

Then we dropped off the rental car and said our farewells to Paul and Kim, who were leaving before us to head home, and started exploring the tiny airport for a few hours until we could check our luggage (Frontier only has workers at the baggage check desk two hours before scheduled flights).  We made great time getting into Denver, landing earlier than expected, but had to wait on the tarmac for almost an hour before we could pull into the gate because another plane was still there.  Luckily Sam slept the whole flight and the whole wait.  Callie slept the whole flight, too, which was wonderful.  We had a long wait for our bags and carseats once we finally got inside, too.  Frontier only had two carousels but about 18 flights assigned to both of them, so it was a bit of a mad house for a while.  Finally we were on the Parking Spot shuttle back to our car, and then a half hour further to our hotel. We hit our pillows at 12:30 am MT and were out!

Green racquetball room - eerie!

The Morris Farm Market was a delicious
little side stop.

In the under-the-ocean tunnel - are you feeling claustrophobic?

Heading back on the bridge that then goes under water (we
went over/under, got gas, then turned around and came back
the way we came).  See that huge barge?  It's heading right toward
the tunnel area.

Looking back at that barge after we came out the other side.

Colorado, here we come!

It was pretty to see the sunset while we took
off.

Zonked!  And I finished my book!

We followed the sunset and also got to see
some cool lightning in the clouds nearby
mid-flight.

Waiting on the tarmac and he's still asleep!

What a week!  We had an absolutely fabulous time!
