Adventuring {Oregon: Cape Meares + Oceanside Beach}

Day Three: Wednesday, June 22nd

Sam woke up early, which meant I was up early,
too (still on Utah time, us kids) so I took
advantage of the quiet and cool and took a little
walk to explore the neighborhood.

Not a bad view from the top of the cul-de-sac!

He doesn't look it, but he did enjoy the ride.

(also, don't mind the clatter at the end - I had to catch
my baby who was rolling away into the weeds.  oops.)

Back to our home away from home.

I've had worse deck views, I guess.

First order of business once everyone else was up
and fed was to check out Cape Meares and our
first stop in the State Park was a lovely little
hike to Big Spruce.

Don't let the name fool you.  It was HUGE!

Berries, berries everywhere!

Thanks for the selfie, Bret!

Again, I loved all the greenery.  So not used to
hiking in that sort of environment, but I wasn't
gonna complain, that's for sure!

Foxglove.

At the Cape Meares Scenic Viewpoint, looking back toward
Oceanside Beach, which we could see from our deck.

This was another quick little hike from the
parking lot.

Trying to see whales, but not being super successful.

I loved these cliffs!

And there's a lighthouse here, too!

Only the cutest little lighthouse you ever did see.

After lunch and naps, we headed to the beach
for the loveliest beach afternoon I've ever
enjoyed.

Lots of digging time with buckets and shovels courtesy of
Grandma.

Cal had a blast decorating this sand castle with
Aunty Heather.

And voila!  The finished product.
(The rest of us had fun finding pretty things to adorn said castle.)

The clouds were fantastic and the temps were perfect.
It was seriously the loveliest day.

Gregg walked and walked and walked while Sam slept and
slept thanks to the super realistic white noise machine we had
handy.

Cal loved searching for rocks and shells.

His first dip in the ocean.

"NOT happy, Mom!"  Poor baby.

Mildly interested in the sand.

Grandma also bought kites for all the kids.
The breeze was perfect for flying them.

Snack time.

Grandma B with her oldest and youngest
grandbabies.

See?  Clouds!  Amazing.

Wandering Gregg.  Contemplating the deep
things of life.

Picture perfect ending to a perfect beach day.

This was Cal's favorite part (and mine, too!).
When the tide went out it left lots of little
pools and puddles to run around and splash
in.  And that's just what she did.

puddle jumping video here
(don't miss it!)

A bit happier with some food in his belly and
some socks on his toesies.
