Vermont 2023 {Getting There: The Boring Parts}

Okay, maybe not boring, but compared to some way more fun and exciting parts, these ones seem pretty boring. Also, I'm going to squeeze in a couple extra pics before we even get started on the trip. Just because I don't know where else to put them (I'm not making a typical Photos from Phones post this month since everything is so new and exciting and postworthy when we're in Vermont). Anyway. Let's get the boring stuff out of the way, so we can get on to the supa fun parts of our journey eastward.

1 September 2023 - Before we left, a sort-of normal Friday:

Morning walk around the loop - I just loved the moon,
which never looks as cool in pictures as it does in real life.

We read this book about Roman numerals
and then had fun writing out all kinds of gnarly
numbers that way. I loved this! I have never
fully understood Roman numerals past the I, V, X
numbers, so (broken record here) I learned so much!

We got to see some aunts and cousins
and grandparents at my cousin Sierra's wedding
reception. Ky snapped this with Sam when
she gave him an early bday present: an Aggie hat!

2 September 2023 - Day one on the road: We packed up Friday night, so all we had to do on Saturday morning was wake up, move the trailer into the garage, put the fridge food into the cooler bag, and hop in the car. We headed out at about 6:30 am MT and drove, drove, drove all day. We stopped in Rawlins at the park to play disc golf and stretch and use the loo. We stopped somewhere in Nebraska at Hardee's for dinner. We stopped for gas. We stopped to stretch at a couple rest stops and parks. I don't really remember much about that day. We made it to Lincoln, NB to sleep around 10 pm CT.

Ky sent this pic while we were driving
through Wyoming - that's how she and the
others canning and freezing food at Mom and Dad's
listened to the Aggie game. Ah, this good ol' radio.
Many Aggie games and General Conferences
have been played on this thing!

Somewhere in Wyoming, we finished
this one. It's always fun to listen
to Cherry Jones read the Little
House books.

Not sure where this was, but I know
Cal took this pic.

And another by Cal.

I think I was sharing my wordle words
with Heatha for some reason - but notice that
first word? Ha! Accurate.

Last rest stop of the evening somewhere
in Nebraska. I just love sunflowers, okay?

3 September 2023 - Sunday looked a lot like Saturday, except we only drove for 7 1/2 hours instead of 12+, because we had a fun surprise for the kids up our sleeves. We tuned into our ward's Sacrament Meeting as we drove through Iowa. We cut through Illinois and ended up just inside Indiana at our hotel there in Hammond.

An unexpected stop after Sam got sick in the car, we
found a nearby park to get out and stretch and get some
fresh air, and what do you know? It had a disc golf course!
How fortuitous!

Gregg read up all about Iowa's corn crops as we were driving
through field after field, so when I spotted this at the gas
station, I just had to snap a pic (spoiler alert: a lot of their
corn goes to ethanol!).

4 September 2023 - We took it easy Monday morning, our third day of travel: we ate a hot breakfast and swam! Then we were off again, but this drive was entirely new to us; we drove to Detroit and then crossed the border into Ontario! We went to Canada! (Stay tuned for a post coming soon specifically about that!)

Breakfast of champions - they always choose waffles in hotels!

Pool party - they love swimming!
