Adventuring {August's Monday Night Hikes}

We only got out a couple times for hiking on Mondays this month.  But they were memorable.  Quality, not quantity, for August, I guess.

7 August 2017: North Skyline Trail (North Ogden Divide)
This was our third annual pilgrimage to this magnificent overlook on the Skyline Trail.  The first time we trekked it, Sam wasn't even born yet, but this time he hiked (and chucked rocks along) a good portion of the downhill all by himself.  Callie made it the entire 1.5 miles to the top all by her little-four-year-old self.  We even saw two (!!) rattlesnakes (!!!!!!!!) slither across the trail at two different spots.  That was intense, to say the least.  And now Sam gets worried when he hears rattling leaves on other trails. (But can ya blame him? I think it's a healthy fear, anyway.)

Seriously impossible to get everyone smiling
at once.

Obligatory overlook shot (even though it is hazy behind us).

It was super hazy on this journey up the mountain.

bonus video!

This may look like just a dirt trail, but it is in fact
a dirt trail with a fat ol' rattler slithering across it.
We backed up quite a ways up the trail after we
heard its warning rattle, so we were actually
only a few steps away when we first saw/heard it.
ACCK!!!

21 August 2017: Mule Shoe Trail (North Fork Park)
After the kids and I found this trail for a Wednesday Wilderness Walk, we told Gregg we had to get back there together for a Monday Night Hike.  Callie was hoping to find raspberries again, but the ones we did see were shriveled and dried up.  Bummer.  The leaves were starting to change on a few of the bushes and there was definitely a feeling of early fall in this late summer hike.  Don't be surprised if you see this one show up again when the leaves really start to go crazy.  It's a beaut!

See that red?  I'm tellin' ya!  Fall is comin'!

Group hug!

My loves!

The ferny parts are always my favorite parts of
trails.

Turkeys!  On the middle gate road as we left the park.
