Vermont Relocation Vacation {10/19: Stateside, Jack-o-Lanterns}

Monday (October 19th) was forecasted to be rainy, but the rain hadn't come after breakfast and before school, so the kids and I opted outside for the morning before be buckled down on lessons. Today's goal was to walk to Stateside. We've always driven to each visit there, but I knew we could walk since it's not that far away. And the morning was lovely so we headed out. It was not without plenty of complaining (once we started up the hill to the base area), but the complaints vanished quickly once we reached flat land again. (And coming home downhill was a breeze, to be sure!)

We missed the road that leads up to the lodge, but
no matter - we'll just pretend we kept walking further
so we could snap a pic of the big sign at the entrance
to the resort before we headed up. ;)

After school and work and dinner, we (finally!!) carved the pumpkins we picked out a couple weeks ago. That was a fun evening activity, which we followed up by watching a pirated version of It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on youtube while eating pumpkin cookies and drinking cider. (I did roast pumpkin seeds, but they got a little burned and Cal especially was not a fan of the lack of flavor. Oh well. Better luck next time.)

This may look like an "eeeew! pumpkin guts!"
face, but actually it was an "ow! my paper cut
hurts with pumpkin juice on it!" face.

Snaggle-tooth twins.

And a scary pumpkin face if I ever saw one.

Cal's close up. (We used my headlamp
for light since we don't have any candles.)

And here's Sam's looking extra spooky
with his black light flashlight inside.

Headlamp version of Sam's.

We stepped outside (in the rain) to get a porch pic or two. We had put our phones with flashlights on in ziplock bags in each pumpkin at this point, which left only our big camera to take photos with. But remember it was raining, and the lighting was weird (we can't turn off the porch light) and I was getting cold holding my jacket over the camera instead of over me, so none of these really turned out great. You get the idea. ;)

Whoops! Gotta change that shutter speed!
But it does give a rather spooky effect. ;)

 Boo!

This never gets old.
