Vermont Relocation Vacation {10/4: Beebe Spur Rail Trail, Stateside}

Sunday morning (October 4th) after breakfast but before Conference we headed back to Newport, but this time with our bikes, for the sole purpose of riding our first rail trail (with many more to come - we are huge fans!). Gregg gets all the credit for discovering this gem somewhere online. And I'm so glad we decided to bring the bikes on this epic trek across the country after all! (At one point we had decided on scooters for the kids only since it would take up way less space, but in the end we opted for bikes for everyone and it has turned out to be the best decision!) We rode for about 2 1/2 miles along the Beebe Spur Rail Trail, starting at the hospital parking lot (as you do - it's an official bike trail parking area). We rode from the hospital down the street about a half block and turned left into the most gorgeous tunnel of trees. Beautiful homes lined either side of the path at times, and at other times we were riding with open views of Lake Memphremagog. It was seriously the most delightful morning we've had in a long time!

Gooood mornin', good mornin'!

Yes, that does say Canada in 5 1/2 miles.
We didn't go quite that far ;)

Ah! I couldn't help taking about a bajillion
pics of practically this same scene all along the
trail.

All along the path were stairs coming down from
people's homes on the right side to cross the trail
and then go down the left side to their private beaches.
Dreamy!

Gregg spotted this cute little rental apartment along the route.

I liked this property that we passed.

Our stopping point was this big open field/beach with views
of Jay Peak in the distance across the lake.

Back to the car we go.

And how 'bout them clouds?

Still lots of green in these woods.

We got back home in time for most of the morning session of Conference while we ate lunch and relaxed. Then, during the break between sessions, we headed back to Stateside to wander and explore again, this time with Gregg. We walked and explored and walked and the kids played "Aggie basketball" on the amphitheater benches. We talked with grandparents and made apple pie and watched the last session of Conference and ate dinner (and pie!) to round out the day.

The kids got a little bit goofy somewhere
in the middle of the day.

We rigged up my tripod on a bridge and Sam pushed
the button on the remote and boom - fall family photo
with minimal fuss.

Time for pie!
