Vermont Relocation Vacation {10/5: Jay Peak Trail, Stateside}

Gregg and Cal (and the rest of us) took Monday (October 5th) off of work and school with plans for a hike on the Jay Peak Trail. Since we had already stood on the peak thanks to a quick and easy ride up on the tram, we opted for a shorter distance (and climb) to the top of The Jet lift on the other side of the saddle from Jay Peak. The day was perfect for hiking, the views were fantastic, and the family was eager to hike after not hiking for nearly three weeks! Another perfect morning!

Oh what a beautiful mornin'!

Gregg took a walk around the neighborhood
before the rest of us got up and going.

The trail doesn't start in the resort. It's actually
a section of the Long Trail, which goes from one
end of Vermont to the other, and starts down the
road a couple miles on the highway.

Lots of mossy roots along this trail.
(We're not in Kanas anymore, Toto!)

This was a steep climb for most of the
hike, but our little mountain goat kids
rocked it!

We made it to the saddle! (We climbed up the backside
of the ski resort, basically.)

Almost to the top of the lift!

Let's lunch!

This time Cal got to push the button on the remote. ;)

The clouds were rolling in and looking
a bit threatening, so we packed things up
and started downward.

Back in the woods.

Sam and Gregg got ahead of Cal and me,
probably because we took our time snapping
pics of all the fungus among us.

Happy hiking buddy.

The sun peeked through at times and it absolutely glowed!

These guys are surprisingly sturdy!

After dinner we went back to play and wander around Stateside (it's our new favorite "backyard" space). Sam and Gregg practiced some disc throws, I snapped pics, Cal threw rocks down the storm drain. We all did our thing and had a lovely evening.

The bridge from Sunday's family photo-op.

Sunset clouds and chair lift. Not bad.

The kids think the covered magic carpet lift is pretty cool.
