Hikes (and Bikes and Walks) {August 2021}

1 Aug 2021: Stringtown Beach
A Sunday afternoon bike ride down Stringtown road to the beach for a walk along the shore. It is crazy how low the reservoir is getting this summer!

Sunny Sunday Sunflowers make me happy.

Creepy Carp Carcasses . . . don't.

2 Aug 2021: Paper Airplane Trail
We met up for a misty moisty morning hike with Holly and Harvey and Leo at our favorite meet up spot this summer: Paper Airplane Trail. The kids spend most of the time building forts under the treehouse while Holly and I chat, and then finally say, "let's hike down to the paper airplane!" since we might as well since that's why we came in the first place.

Don't let those faces fool you - they loved every minute!

4 Aug 2021: Hidden Lake
We got to bring Megan along for a hike to Hidden Lake at Powder Mountain today! It was a beautiful day and a fantastic hike with some great hikin' pals!

On our trek around the lake.

Group shot!

Group shot, take two (with better light).

Tired kiddos at the top of the mountain - this hike
is tricky because it starts downhill and then you have
to climb back up at the end.
Also, super smoky view - usually you can see down
into Cache Valley from here, but not today!

Cal snapped this pic of a cool Subaru in the parking lot.

She also snapped this pic of herself in
 the backseat. haha

10 Aug 2021: Slowpoke to Lightning Ridge (or almost there)
We packed up the hammocks and hiked to our favorite little aspen grove halfway up Lightning Ridge at Pow Mow for some story time and snacks and a lovely cool evening at elevation.

11 Aug 2021: North Arm Nature Trail
We needed to get some wiggles out so we walked down to the North Arm Trailhead since it had been a long time since we've been there. We started down the nature trail and discovered that it had recently been cleared out and we could make the whole loop!

We can see twinges of color on the mountains, but
they don't really show up in the photo. Fall is coming!
(Or is everything just dying because of the drought?)

Sunflower season!

Yes, this photo looks almost the same as the one
before, but I just can't choose!

Some work has been done on the boardwalk - lookin'
nice!

Nature trail bench rest.

More new signs popping up all over the bike path.

23 Aug 2021: Long Loop Bicentennial Trail
A lovely Monday Night Hike to check out the longer version of the Bicentennial Trail loop we tried last month in the rain. We did four miles! (When I mentioned as we were walking back to the car that we had kept a good pace of 2 miles an hour, Sam (who knew it was a four mile hike) said, "so we've been hiking for two hours?" You got it, dude! Great mental math skills!)

I love these lovely yellow late-bloomers along the side
of the trail!
