Sew Callie

One of Cal's favorite book series is about a girl named Zoe who designs and makes her own clothes. She has been sketching outfits for months, wanting to make something real of her own. Grandma Blanchard offered to give her a little lesson on making a t-shirt, and we finally got it on the calendar for Monday, August 30th. (Perks of homeschool - we could do the three R's at home before we left, and count shopping and sewing as school, too!) We met her at Joann's in Riverdale, picked out some cute purple fabric, and headed back to West Haven to sew. But when we got there, poor Aggie was not well, and we had to postpone our sewing for the next day so Kim and Paul could take care of their beloved dog in her last hours.

Cal also had wanted to make a skirt from jeans, and since after watching a few youtube video tutorials  this seemed like something I could handle sewing-wise, we decided to go for it together after we got home. She rocked it! And the skirt turned out darling!

On Tuesday, after math and language arts was done at home, we headed back to West Haven for the long-awaited t-shirt sewing. Grandma and Cal worked together to make the shirt, Sam and Grandpa went on a golfing adventure, and I sat on the couch and read. Such a fun day! And look at that outfit! I think this will not be the end of her fashion career - can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

I think that smile says it all!

And so does that one! (He didn't actually
drive, but he loved how fast it went
when Grandpa drove him to a pond to hit
balls into the water.)
