Vermont 2021 {10/17-10/18: Sunday Snacks, Goodrich Memorial Library}

On Sunday, the 17th, we needed a pre-church snack. We had all the fixin's for a delicious charcuterie board and I took the skills I learned from reading a book about cheese plates to incorporate a "salami river" (I used summer sausge) into my design. I felt fancy, but best of all, it was tasty and filling and hit the spot! Later I used up some of our plethora of apples to make a crisp for our dessert and planning meet-up with the McClungs. (No pics of that, unfortunately - it got gobbled too fast!)

At least three varieties of apples here from our Shelburne
Orchards picking adventure earlier this month.

Just one of many, many, many ladybugs
we've seen (and been invaded by) the past
few weeks! Sheesh!

Sam made a ski lift out of legos and a piece
of string this afternoon. Clever!

For Art on Monday, the 18th, the kids and I used Art For Kids Hub on youtube (again) to teach us how to watercolor fall leaves. That was a a fun lesson! Later that afternoon, after a trip to Walmart with all the kids, Christine and I stopped at the Goodrich Memorial Library in Newport and instantly fell in love with the place. It was also built in 1899 (like the last old library we visited), but this one is clearly more well-stocked, likely because it's in a bigger town. The kids promptly made themselves at home in the kids room and on the soft couch to read piles of books. We also wandered upstairs to look at some of the random displays they have, like a huge case of stuffed birds (and an alligator!), an old phone switchboard, an old diving suit, some military things, a corner shelf of teapots and china, and photos from a local photo contest. So fun! And the building was beautiful! So many great little details. We had a lovely time.

Watercolor learners.

Library lovers.

Pretty stained glass windows!

Lots of books in a bright cheery room!

Original art by Vermont children's book
illustrator, Mary Azarian.

She's the illustrator of Snowflake Bentley,
which we love!

Fireplace!

Cozy couch and graphic novel and stained
glass and lace curtains!

Chess! (Too bad we don't really
know/remember how to play.)

Upstairs butterfly cabinet.

Diving suit.

Just an old picture of downtown Newport - the Blanchard
on the sign caught my eye, of course. ;)

This is the meeting room upstairs. Isn't it dreamy?
I really love those ceiling tiles yet again.

And just look at those doorways! Heart eyes!!

Even the radiator was cute!

Goodbye, Goodrich Memorial! I love you!
